Bru: We Can Still Make Top Six Tuesday, 27th Oct 2015 08:42 Midfielder Kevin Bru believes the Blues can get back into the top six despite the current run which has seen them win just one of their last nine league games.
Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest, Town are 13th in the Championship table with 17 points, seven points behind Middlesbrough, Derby and Birmingham in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, who all have 24.
Burnley in third and second-placed Hull are a point ahead of them with leaders Brighton on 29.
“We just need one win to get us going and it was so close against Nottingham,” Bru told the club site.
“Little things are going against us at the moment and it happened again on Saturday but we are confident things will turn around for us.
“There is a long way to go in the season and we have a good group here, some very talented players.
“I’m sure we can get back in the top six. If we can get that one win it will give us the momentum. It will give us the spark to push on.”
Mauritius international Bru has started the last two games having missed most of August and September with a hamstring injury.
Town are next in action against Cardiff City at Portman Road on Saturday with manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor having been at the Bluebirds' 0-0 home draw with Bristol City last night.

I guess with a fully fit bish bru and fraser and a couple of our strikers hitting some form play offs is more realistic we would have to get a win streak of atleast 10 at some stage to get close to autos now. Id take 6th again right now no question

Well the team are going to have to go some now to achieve that. True Champions form will be required in all honesty. Over the last two months, we have managed just 7 pts out of a possible 24 - relegation form frankly. I, like everyone else is just waiting for the team, certain players, to just "click", but it seems a long way off. If I didnt know better, Id say the team and a number of players are suffering from a play off defeat hangover. Lets see what happens over the next month. Out th e 15 available points we need to be taking at least 10 to get back on track. Can we achieve that on current form?

Kevin, mathematically you are right! We have the players but, to quote Eric Morecambe, 'not necessarily in the right order'!

The next 5 games are all winnable - 6 if you include the home game v Middlesbrough. A big ask, but it's what we need right now, if we are going to do anything this season, and recover from the recent poor form. The turnaround must start on Saturday

If Mick decides to play his best 11 rather than his favourites for the rest of the season, then I still believe we can too. Bru has already been great back in midfield and should be a certain starter for us in my opinion. When Teddy Bishop and Ryan Fraser come back we'll look a lot stronger. I think Gerken, Murph and Chambers/Berra need dropping as a kick up the back side.

Love the optimism from Bru, but like ArnieM has said we are showing relegation form right now. Keaneish said something similar (I think it was 13 points from the next 5 games). If that does happen we will be back in the top 6. Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to get back up there. But form, midfield and defensive frailties abound. Forest tore us apart in the 1st half and deserved to win not draw. We are simply not good enough and need new players in on loan NOW. Coke etc should be nowhere near the first 11. We need decent back up players and this has proved evident in the last few weeks. Muscletonjoe is more realistic. We need to make sure we don't get relegated. I like at the bottom few sides and there isn't much between them and us. Charlton are likely to kick start their season now with a change of manager and other teams down there have the potential to catch us up quick. We need to start winning starting Saturday.

To be honest, I'd just like to see us playing some good football again and to enjoy the performances at Portman Road. It feels like we are a long way short of being good enough for promotion, so let's not torture ourselves about getting in the top two or the top six. Let's try to defend properly, pass the ball better, create chances for our strikers and see where that takes us.

It is really good to have Bruuuuuuuu back. Bru, a fit Bishop, Skuse (& for me) Toure, across the middle would be a very decent balanced midfield. 2 up front Stick with Murphy & Sears - stop trying to accomodate McGoldrick/Pitman in every game Defence : A sad thing to say, but Knudson beng injured may be a good thing into finally forcing MM's hand to stick with Parr who frankly has more stamina, physically stronger & more attack minded. I feel MM should have got a really top class goalkeeper in the summer, kept Bart as number2 and released Gerken out to a grateful League 1 club.

So we are now realistically looking at parity from last year only from a lower starting point. Sorry but anything less than playoffs is a failure in my eyes. Considering the new players coming in. Surely we are 'suposed' to have a better team or are we going to use the view that so have everyone else? Well that means we didn't 'spend' wisely?

I sincerely hope he is right, but for me we overachieved in the first half of last season, which luckily was enough to see us into the top6. Because frankly since January we have actually been very average. The loss of Mings with only Fraser impressing so far, I'm not sure we are good enough. Other teams invested in the transfer market and I'm not convinced we have enough to compete with those sides. Coke and Toure aren't good enough.
TimmyH added 17:42 - Oct 27
and that's what a lot of other mid-table teams are thinking as well...only in October and we can right ourselves off already for the automatics and the way we're playing presently the play-offs might be a long shout as well.
Ipswichbusiness added 18:05 - Oct 27
Jas0999 normally I agree with you, but this time I don't. If by "invested in the transfer market" you mean spent money like water, then just look at Bournemouth who spent £8 million on Mings, plus wages and agent fees only for him to be injured weeks into the season. We need to build sensibly. I have my own doubts about signing the likes of Douglas and Coke but at least they are relatively low risk.
