Parr Completes Strømsgodset Switch
Wednesday, 13th Jan 2016 09:52

Full-back Jonny Parr has completed his move to Strømsgodset, signing a contract until 2019, the Norwegian club has confirmed.

Strømsgodset are understood to have paid the Blues a fee of around £70,000 for the 27-year-old, whose Town contract was due to end in the summer.

The Norwegian club's sporting director, former Sheffield United striker Jostein Flo, said: "Jonathan is a class player who fits perfectly into our club and our style of play.

"He has gained much experience in England, and played games at a high level over time. He knows what is required. This is a happy day for Strømsgodset."

He added: "He is good with both feet, very capable and is a player with a lot of energy who will delight the fans here at Marienlyst."

TWTD revealed that the Blues were in talks with the Norwegian top flight side regarding the Norway international a week ago on Saturday with the clubs sealing an agreement on Friday.

Parr, who was left out of the 18 which faced Portsmouth on Saturday, subsequently travelled to Norway to discuss personal terms and to undergo a medical.

In addition to Strømsgodset, other clubs in Norway and elsewhere in Europe also showed interest in the Oslo-born defender or midfielder.

While understood to have been happy at Town, Parr wanted to move on in order to play regular football having had limited first-team opportunities with the Blues this season - he started only three times in the Championship - while he and his currently pregnant wife were also keen to move back home to Norway.

Parr joined the Blues following his release by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2014 and made 29 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

Last night, Town confirmed that former Wolves and Ireland full-back Kevin Foley will be signing until the end of the season as Parr's replacement.

It's a shame he's left. I wish him all the best.

Can understand him wanting to go, as he's not really had a decent run of first team football here, through no fault of his own. it's just the way it goes sometimes at clubs, but he deserves to be able to play more. So wish him well, and good luck.

Good bit of business Mick - Parr wanting first team football (fair enough, thanks JP, appreciated your time here) and to head home, contract up in the summer and we get £70k into the mix considering he could leave for nothing in the summer.

Echo what others have said. A good move for all parties, although he would have been my preferred LB this season. Glad to see he's found a new club with a long contract and we've got (seemingly) decent cover in.

All the best Jonny - thank you for your quality finish at Millwall!

1 we got him on a free
2 with the amount of game time he got foley will be a great replacement
3 there is something more than meets the eye as he would of been snapped up by an English club had he been happy in England I would believe

Good luck jonnyyyyyy boy always rated you

70k. Must be showing my age. Back in the 80's that was a large fee back then. Quality defender. Must be hard to knock a natural full back like Chambers out the team. Met Parr a couple of teams and came across as a pleasant bloke who signed my sons shirt and prepared to take time out to do such things and have his photo taken. Isnt that kind of thing part of the package. To be honest most of the Ipswich players are good like that.

I am guessing Mick has been aware of this for a long time hence him playing Knudsen in front of Parr. Happy to eat humble pie on this one as I couldn't understand why 'stubborn' Mick wasn't playing Parr but I guess if he wanted to get his pregnant wife back to Norway then Mick was doing the right thing by sticking by his replacement. Be interesting to see if Foley gets a run at left back even if that isn't his preferred position.

70k or not, it's yet another transfer profit from MM. For all his faults, you have to agree he's exceptional in the transfer market.

I would like to wish him all the best for the future.

Evans will be delighted, he has received a fee, a likely high earner off the books and no doubt a very cheap free transfer (who isn't match fit) in as a replacement. Backwards step for me, at a time we should be looking to press on. But typical of ipswichs transfer strategy in recent times.

Fair play to him. He did well for the team, scored a few (important) goals, came in on a free and put 70000 into the coffers on leaving. Now he is starting a family he would like to move back to Norway where healthcare and schooling is a little better. Plus Norwegian children are taught how to ski as soon as they pop out and skiing is limited around the Ipswich area.

Last season I thought Parr got badly shafted on several occasions - came in a few times in place of Mings and deserved to keep his place.

There was a spell last season when both played, and we seemed to have more balance then we do now.

I must say though, from what I have seen of Parr this season, albeit only twice at Man Utd and Forest he was very poor. I'm sure he's been good in other performances though, and Knudsen at times hasn't pulled up any trees so he may feel hard done by to be on the bench.

That said, he will have been on a decent wage, and if he isn't going to play then it's good to get him off the bill and I hope he has a great time at his new club. Great to see a Norwegian player capable of playing in a bigger league going back to his native country.

As pointed out above we have received a fee for him - so it's a decent dealing in the transfer market as opposed to paying someone off!

Good luck Parr, thanks for all you've done for us.

Good Luck and Thanks Jonny Parr - a really good player - and should have been a regular for us.

An experienced, and very capable player at Championship level.

A good move for Parr, next season he'll probably be playing Champions League football in a team that plays football not hoofball. Think he was our best fullback but obvipusly didn't fit with MM's idea of football (which isn't mine either). He'll do well in the Norwegian league, good luck to him & hope he is treated better than he has been at ITFC

I wish him well and he has made the move for the right reasons - for the good of his family.
He never let us down but having said that, I thought that his best performance at Portman Road was when he played for Palace.
