Young Striker Brown Joins Chelsea
Saturday, 9th Jul 2016 11:04

TWTD understands that academy striker Charlie Brown has left the Blues to join Chelsea's youth set-up.

The 16-year-old former Felixstowe Academy pupil was due to start his two-year scholarship this summer, having been at Playford Road since the U10s.

We understand the clubs are yet to agree compensation, while Arsenal also showed interest.

Brown broke into the Town U21s side last season and scored his first goal at that level in the 4-2 victory over Crewe Alexandra in March.

Ummm, well, that's...good. Keep the 'feel good' news a-rollin' in!

They're getting wise to leave us before they even barely get going.

Charlton must've been snoopying around him for a while, I guess.

Hope we get Kiwomya from Chelsea as part of the deal on a seasons loan!

That's the system. If a player is good enough a higher ranked academy can pluck them. Similarly we can 'pluck' from a lower ranked academy. This is why we shouldn't have settled for second best in the first place. He might be a success or a flop, however it shows a vulnerability in our youth set up that belies our history.

Poor decision by him, but can't blame him. Who wouldn't be tempted. Let's hope he comes through it unscathed.

Groan...will we ever get some good news about ITFC? While I am glad about the signing of Adam Webster, he alone is hardly going to transform us into a promotion chasing side!

Well that's the last anyone will hear of him

The trouble about waiting to he end of the summer for signings as they are not ready to hit the ground running when the season starts. Let's at least hope that this happens rather than sod all

Did he not have the sense to see what is happening at Chelsea with next to no academy player getting into the league side ! The best he can hope for is that he will get a decent club for his time on loan ( joining the other 630+young players ) before being shunted out .

But hardly any English youngsters break through into the Chelsea first team! Non league by the time he's 20

Just think about the money! Can probably earn more on an apprenticeship with Chelsea over 2/3 apprenticeship than 5 years with Town.

Good luck to him for his ambition and I hope he succeeds where most others have failed.

How many ITFC academy products are playing in current international teams? How many ITFC academy players are playing in Premier League? or even ask how many of them are playing in Championship? We are far from being good in training young football stars. Forget about Richard Wright, Kieron Dyer. It was million years ago and still they weren't that great. Do you think Bishop or Dozzell will become new Beckham, Lampard or Gerrard? Not even close.

Shame. That's his career over then. Whoever heard of Chelsea academy products making it?

Weren't that great? Both Dyer and Wright were full England internationals in their time!

Yeah, NITFC, whoever heard of John Terry, Graham Le Saux, Ryan Bertrand, Robert Huth, Fabio Borini, etc *rolls eyes*

Regardless, I'd guess (allegedly) his parents will have new white goods, a holiday and some cash squirelled away now, perhaps. He may never make it (so few do) but at least something was gained...

Perhaps he didn't fancy playing football in a neckbrace.
