McCarthy Confirms Diagouraga Loan and Taylor Set to Train With Town
Saturday, 21st Jan 2017 18:03

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leeds midfielder Toumani Diagouraga will be joining the Blues on loan and that former Newcastle United centre-half Steven Taylor will be training with the squad on Monday.

“Yes, that’s going to happen,” McCarthy said regarding 29-year-old Diagouraga. “[He’s someone to add a bit of power to the midfield] and a bit of ability.

“He was the one at Brentford that got on the ball and started it all off in that really good team that got in the play-offs, I’m delighted with that one.

With several first-teamers out injured McCarthy needs to add senior players to his squad.

“I look in the dressing room there, Diggers has just come back from being out for eight weeks and I thought he did well today,” he added.

“Jordan Spence has come in after not playing a game all season, we’ve signed one from Forest Green in Kieffer Moore, who I thought did well in his time on the pitch.

“I’ve got Tristan Nydam on the bench and Adam McDonnell travelling, it’s been a tough old season for that. So yes, it would be nice to have some fresh faces.”

Is the Diagouraga loan with a view to a longer-term deal? “Funny that, that’s always the question, we’re taking on loan until the end of the season.”

Diagouraga joined the Whites from Brentford last January and has made 14 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring three goals, but his only game this season was on the opening day of the campaign.

TWTD revealed that the Blues were targeting Taylor on Friday morning and McCarthy confirmed that he would be running the rule over the 30-year-old in the week: “He’s coming to train on Monday.”

Given his experience in the Premier League, the Blues boss says he could be a significant asset to the squad: “If he’s fit, he’s been out in America playing [with the Portland Timbers] and we’ll have a look at him next week. He was a very good player.”

If Taylor can remain fit he would be one player to have, he is also natural leader

MCCARTHY your a buffon, nice time to release details of signing after another bad day at the office. You have had months to at least try and get some fans on your side by taking a bit of responsility, holding your hands up, even trying to pasiify us, but no not you, you stubborn old goat. Kindly do one now please as you are destroying our club.

It looks like Diagouraga's Leeds career is over, so it seems wise to have a look at him with a view to a permanent signing. Was a key player in a good Brentford team.

People are referring to unwillingness to pay transfer fees, but dont forget players recently n the Premier league like Lawrence or Taylor wont come cheap in terms of wages. If the likes of Taylor could be attracted for a couple of seasons, he along with a new striker could be key players in turning things around and becoming contenders again.

I still expect Evans to provide funds for a decent striker, in the summer if not now, so need for panic or despair. We are not bottom of the table, unlike 4 years ago.

The one thing I regard as a positive from today McCarthy sees as a negative.

Couldn't care less anymore. MM is still here, that's the problem that needs sorting immediately

I am sure like me several of you will have looked Toumani up n Wikipedia, his whole career seems to be loans from one club to another. He was so far down the Leeds pecking order earlier in the season that he didn't appear in the squad list on matCh day programmes. Come Ipswich surely you can do and us supporters deserve better than this. Sorry Toumani no respect meant and if you come I hope you do well but this is hardly a signing to set the blood pressure soaring. I see Murph and Connor Hourihane scored again today!!!

Write to the Chinese nad Russians and get a decent owner in ? Anyone know a decent Russian or Chinese billionaire who has not made their money through fraudulent or criminal means ? Give me Scrooge Evans any day if we have to become yet another spineless club to crawl out of this division.

If Evans is not interested in promotion and just wants a mediocre mid table club ,what is the point in following the club? not trying to win anything ,Cups have been treated with total distain .Presumably we are expected to shut up and pay up to watch a team with nothing to play for, .That said it seems we still have best part of 15000,supporters who are happy with that ! or is the worm going to turn ? SACRIFICE A COUPLE OF HOME GAMES ,STAY AWAY .

Interesting that Diagouraga was in the Brentford play-off team of the 2014/15 season but now seems to be a bit of an outcast, surely Skuse, Berra and Sears haven't hit the heights either since then...a lot can change in 2 years.

I know nothing about this chap but he cannot be worse than Kevin Bru was today- weak, can't run and hides. He should watch a video of the Huddersfield midfield on how to play because it seems he is not getting many pointers from the training ground
The problem has been our weak midfield at least this is an attempt to solve it.
Taylor is a crock but if he can patched up for the next 4 months I think it would make a big difference- we just lack quality in so many positions, pay as you play contract?

According to Mick our fantastic new signing has.... " a bit of talent ". Sounds SO good.

The only real way this is a good signing is if he is a replacement for the pedestrain Skuse. Hopefully add some steel to the middle and allow skillful players like Bru, Dozzell and Lawrence to impose themselves on the opposition rather than help Skuse do his defensive duties only

Not sure about these, Taylor a good player but would command high wages and at 30 not sure it's worth the outlay. Don't know much about the other guy, seems from people are saying his defensive midfielder, which is what I would expect from the dinosaur. If he is going to play instead of skuse and Douglas he can't be any worse! My fear is he will replace bru or Dozzell and play with micks favourite ex skuse. We need a playmarker, owen garven and Colchester would have been better. As long as mick is here the style will never change. I don't believe he can change its how his teams have always played " ugly football"

We need this boy was class couple years ago time to rip up Douglas contract

As for a new buyer why not set up a fan buyout ???

We don't need promotion or billions to do it even just good honest football

For heaven's sake guys. Of course we want the club to sign some permanent players and we have 4 bids in, in excess of £1m. We have to wait to see obviously if any of them come off . That doesn't mean if a decent player

That doesn't mean if a decent player becomes available on loan we shouldn't go for that. He is a good player so seems daft not to get him.
