Chambers: Three Stars on Our Shirts
Wednesday, 18th Oct 2017 16:58

Skipper Luke Chambers has responded to Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira’s weekend claims that the Canaries are “a better club” than Town by pointing out the three stars above the Blues' badge, indicating the League Championship trophy, FA Cup and UEFA Cup which have occupied the Portman Road trophy cabinet, and suggesting the Portuguese frontman is “obviously not very well educated”.

Oliveira made the comments at the weekend after scoring Norwich’s equaliser during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City at Carrow Road.

“These are things that you take with a pinch of salt and you can’t let the occasion get to you,” Chambers told iFollow Ipswich when quizzed on Oliveira’s comments.

“I’m sure there’ll be a few words exchanged on Sunday and it’s a battle that we’re definitely looking forward to.”

He added: “The type of person that said it, you can’t really take too much that comes out of their mouth [seriously], they’re obviously not very well educated.

“I think there are three stars above the Ipswich crest on our shirts. It’s something that adds a little bit extra.

“But knowing the guy and playing against him numerous times, he’s always got a lot to say for himself. We’ll look forward to it on Sunday.”

Don't forget they dumped us out of the Semi-finals on the way to the Milk Cup in 1985, or is that trophy not worth a star? :-D

Exactly right, we have achieved the highest domestic honour in winning the league, the great spectacle of winning the FA Cup when the cup was in its prime, and a European trophy in the UEFA Cup.

More recently Norwich may have had some success in terms of time at the top level, but even this century they could not match our 5th place Premier League finish of 2000/01, plus they had a season in League One a few years ago.

This is the canaries' last season with parachute money (giving them a vastly bigger budget to us) so they had better make sure they go up or else they really will be a team in decline. I hope we can stop them beating us like we did in both matches last season, scuppering their promotion bid.

How can oliveria or whatever his name is say they are better when he plays for Norwich and Ipswich Town is none of his business.

Cheap jibes from Oliveria. They would be better off with Olive from on the buses!

What's it got to do with a South African cricketer ? I don't really care for what is said as long as we put in a damm good performance and beat them to every ball and win.

Cut to first minute on Sunday. Chambers goes in hard and Oliveira gets up, looks down, and sees his knee is buckled in backward. He walks off the pitch like a stork.

#Karma.

I remember the famous incident Arsenal v Man Utd where Roy Keane and Patrick Viera were having that spat in the tunnel, and Roy Keane pointed to the pitch and said we will sort it out on there. That is what we need to do talk is cheap!!!

Norwich have been top dog for the last 7-8 seasons now, but only because they wormed into the Premier League just as the money was starting to get silly. Burley's team was better than any dross they've EVER cobbled together, but unfortunately it was 10 years premature...

In terms of pedigree and history, Norwich are a mere footnote in the annals of English football. Now your average budgie on the street would argue that Ipswich's success was all in the past, and I guess they'd be right; but the way I see it, and as i've argued on these very pages, sky and the premier league have robbed clubs of ours of a meaningful future. So history is all we've got. But at least we've got one...

I want to see Chambo smash Oliveira (fairly of course). A 'welcome to the game mate' type of tackle. Hope Garner's playing and that he gets in the ear of Norwich.

The number of times Norwich fans have boasted that "we beat Bayern Munich" in Europe. BIG DEAL. Come back when you have won a European Trophy. Or the League. Or the FA Cup. Nobody outside England have ever heard of Norwich City. Everyone in the World has heard of Ipswich Town.

14 years consecutive in Europe, 2 greatest England managers, 3 worthwhile trophies can't be taken away and quite rightly so. Add many others like Milan and the great st ettiene we took them all.Yes it's history but it's what great clubs are built on and I like the rest are proud to support this great club. It's only since sheepshanks left we have lost our way with bad decision making and losing our community image. As someone else said sky etc have changed football for the worse and money has made competing hard. Saying that i wouldn't give up the memories I have over the year. COYB

We have the history that they don't. While they may have had a few seasons in the Premier League more recently than us (and one in League 1 much more recently than us too), their present isn't really that much better than ours is it? (1 point better off in the same league from one game more.) With their money from the parachute payment they should be streaks ahead of us but are they? They have two claims to fame - that they once beat Bayern and their hooge fan base that saw them fill their ground even when they were losing 7-1 at home to Lisbie and Col Utd in League 1.
