Woolfenden to Join Swindon on Loan
Friday, 31st Aug 2018 18:02

Central defender Luke Woolfenden is set to join League Two Swindon Town on a season-long loan, TWTD understands.

As reported earlier, manager Paul Hurst hinted on Wednesday that the 19-year-old, who returned to action with the U23s on Monday following a knee injury, several weeks earlier than had been anticipated, would be allowed to move out on loan if he recruited another central defender.

“I have to say, I think credit to the medical staff and also credit to the player himself, he made a speedier recovery than we first thought or feared,” Hurst said.

“He’s one that we’ve had a quite a bit of interest in on the loan front but as we stand, I’m sure you’d all agree, it would be foolish to allow someone like that out if we haven’t got another defender in the building with us.

“But I think it was pleasing to see him out there, especially when we thought it might have been another three weeks or so.

“He’s a young lad, hopefully he he doesn’t get injured anyway, but if he does he’s shown that he’s quite a quick healer.”

Woolfenden, who spent most of last season on loan at Bromley, has made two senior starts and three sub appearances for the Blues.

As with the loan deals involving Josh Emmanuel and Ben Morris, Town will be able to cut the move short in January.

Err why? Surely we need the cover at Ipswich?

Ok..... now I'm usually pretty positive but this is a dross idea...... We need the cover. No point in the loan addition if Woolfie goes out... still a defender down. Don't understand this at all

HAHAHAHAHA!!....another one, thought he looked quite promising at times when he did get an opportunity under Mick.

What's the point of us having an academy if these lads never get the chance, joke

Nsiala back in three games, Pennington on the bench, needs to go out and get experience. Expect hurst to try and sign another defender is January transfer window

Taking the p.ss now.
Short of centre backs so let ours go.
I am now giving up on any hope for our youngsters
Was really optimistic when p h arrived now not sure he is good for our club.... sad

Really beginning to wonder about some of the decisions that are going on here at the moment.

Another bizzarre one..was really hoping our kids were going to be a big part of things this season.

5 point plan....what's happened to that?

I'd would sooner play him than Pennington. I would've thought we'd have needed both. A couple of injuries/suspensions and we are in big trouble

I don't think Ipswich have lost when Woolfenden has played ... !

I'm surprised by this, looked good when I've seen him and he sure up the back line when he came on against Blackburn. I don't see the point in this one.

Not a surprise really. A season at Swindon will be more valuable to him than sitting on our bench all season. He wouldn't get much game time ahead of Chambers, Nsiala, Pennington and potentially McAuley if we sign him. Makes sense all round! Looks like a prospect! COYB!

Does Klug not have any influence about some if these players? Seems to me that Hurst and Doig are gonna do as they please and sod anyone else. Was feeling confident about Sunday with some of the names that have been banded around in defence but not as confident now to be honest.

Can't see the logic in this should have kept him till January window then got a permanent cb in for left side cb then sent him on loan for half season

We will be playing Ellis Harrison as a make shift centre half at this rate. I have been supportive of PH and what he is trying to achieve so far but we cannot simply send out decent young players in a a position we have no cover for.

What exactly is our tactic in this transfer window?

Again if it was championship manager I'd probably have quit the game and restarted again making a lot fewer signings second time around!

Smity0981 ...that's where your wrong , Leeds season ticket holder says he is a sound player who they actually wanted back .

I understand the need for young lads to go out on loan...but if we need CB cover why on earth are we loaning out our players ?

With only one defender coming in and 2 going out on load I'm truly struggling with this one?
Is there a secret player in somewhere that we all don't know about???
