Work Starts on Cobbold Stand Mural
Tuesday, 20th Jul 2021 09:53

Work has begun on the mural on the windows at the back of the Cobbold Stand paying tribute to the club's history and stars of the past.

Plans for the mural were announced in January 2020 but were interrupted by the pandemic.

The mural will cover milestones in the club's history and include players from across the generations with the first panes covered featuring John Elsworthy, Paul Cooper, Paul Mariner, Russell Osman, Frans Thijssen, Richard Wright, Titus Bramble and Luke Chambers.

The glass on the back of the Cobbold Stand had been among the areas of the ground which had fallen into disrepair in recent seasons with a plastic coating having become detached.

Why are people moaning about who's not on there when not all of it has been completed?

In regards to the "Chambers should not be on there" crowd, he had almost 400 appearances for the club. That more than qualifies to be up there. Shutting out the last 15 years because we didn't get the results we wanted seems spiteful at best. There's still a lot of good we can pull from those years.

Maybe one of the areas of the mural is organic where it's updated every season with highlights from the current squad. Get Norwood up there. Let him walk up to the stadium and see his face up there. We're building a solid squad this season, embrace it. Promote them like we are the biggest team in England. We must remember the past glories, but not at the expense of nurturing the present. Remember the past, embrace the present, hope for the future. We need to highlight the current squad as much as we do the past squad. Many of the younger fans don't care how good we were twenty years before they were born. We need to cater to all eras of fans. It's the only way we can move forward united.

Have they confirmed who is going up there ? I do think Richard wright,Matt Holland Jim Magilton Marcus Stewart and Martijn Reuser all there for more recent good days magiltons hat trick v Bolton best night ever at Portman road Holland captain through the most recent good days always gave his all and wright great keeper part of the recent glory days as well saved penalty at Wembley in the play off final and sold for a big fee to a big club you. Can't blame him for going and from going on what sheepshanks has said the only way they could get him to sign a new contract was to put the big club release clause in there so otherwise he could of gone for nothing all of them deserve to be up there maybe David Johnson as well his goals got us in the play offs in 2000 consistent goal scorer whilst here and then sold at a 3 times profit as well all deserve to be there sadly for us who didn't see the glory days in the 70/80s these guys are the heroes of our days
