Any parents of young teens about? 09:18 - Apr 10 with 13938 viewsartsbossbeard

Beard Jnr, 14, hasn't left his bedroom for the last three days and mixes his time between playing fortnite 'til the wee hours and then sleeping 'til beyond midday.

None of his mates, apparently, want to go outside and 'play' and he's got no inclination to get out on that bike I got him for Christmas.

Is this the norm now?

Two teenage stepdaughters (13 and 15) and I swear if I walk into the house one more time and see a poxy YouTube video on the tele of a child opening something or other and documenting it I’m going to have heart failure.

This is why I stopped making YT videos, I can't compete with some kid talking about their day or their views on life :/

We've just had a chat and he's agreed to get dressed and go outside today.

He's got 6x mates who all live in spitting distance BUT they don't want to go out either, they all want to sit on their PS4/Xbox's and play online.

What's wrong with hanging out in the park, grabbing sugary drinks from the shop and kicking a football about. I don't get it.

Yep, he's leaving the house today even if he doesn't want to.

It's not healthy is it?

If you are thinking of forcing him to go to Portmsn Road this evening he might, with some justification, report you for child abuse.

It's difficult to believe, I'd imagine, but my English skills far outweighed my maths skills.

I look at his algebraic maths homework, shrug my shoulders and walk away.

Yep seems pretty much the way they've gone these days.

We have a park up my road - sure, growing up we played Snes / N64 / PS1 / dreamcast for hours however we also played footy up there for hours on end too.

Usually get 10-20 people no problem, most nights of the week.

The past 15 years, the park has been hardly used for footy. Sad times.

Dont get it. When we were kids we got up and went straight over the park to play football all day. Coats as goalposts. Or cricket when the cricket season was on.

We only went home when we got hungry or the park keeper chased us off!!

And then there were girls!!!!!!

I simply lived over Holywells Park as a kid.

Biked down there from the 'hood, played footy, sat around, had an ice cream and got rejected by girls on most occasions.

As a teenager myself(16) It's certainly not unheard of, I don't play that game myself, but most of my mates spend hours on it. What is a bit strange is not going outside with them, me and my mates play a lot of football up at fram sports club, and I've managed to convince a couple of them to come to the villa game.

No it's not. Our is only 10 but he's strictly limited to game time despite his friends seemingly being on all the time (we also don't let him play Fortnite or any other shooting games, but he's obviously much younger). An hour at a time max, not on consecutive days and nothing after tea. We often have no screen days (for everyone) - it's amazing how much other stuff you can get done.

It's hell of a battle though - these things are seriously addictive (obviously) and he doesn't seem able to entertain himself like we could when we were younger.

Of course the ironic thing is that ABB at approaching 50 years old still has his own games room in the house and spends every hour that God sends in it.

You really couldn't make it up.

I've had people in my class playing it as I'm trying to deliver the lesson. It's very annoying, especially because I've played it and imo it's one of the sh1ttest games I've ever played.

Those unboxing videos are stupid but there's something interesting about them. I often find myself watching some random unbox their MyProtein order and then think why the hell did I watch that entire video?

Some very funny comments in this thread. That said it's a key moment in a boy's life and he might need some sort of careful fatherly intervention.
