Those people who bet on Leicester to win the league at 5,000-1 had huge value in their bet; more realistic odds would have been 1,000-1.
In a similar vein, Japan beating South Africa in the last Rugby World Cup was priced at 100-1 - again, huge value, a fairer price would have been 33 or 50-1.
Mathematically, the fact that an event is relatively unlikely to happen, needs to be removed from the concept of the 'value' attached to that bet. J2s post above encapsulates the concept well. |  | | |
