Hmmm. Not sure I buy into the hand wringing on this lads, and I certainly don't think it should be conflated with Windrush as the Guardian seem to have done (but not Lammy), Windrush certainly was a scandal.
The law is that people who are not UK or EU nationals, when they are convicted and sentenced to IEO 12 months, are deported to their country of origin. This is not the same as Windrush which was a psychopathic act of betrayal by incompetent idiots.
But some of this of course comes back to a point I often bore you all about; "Tayjay told me he was the victim of county lines grooming and compelled to carry drugs". So yet another reason not to buy illegal drugs. |

You’re technically right about the law and it would make some sort of sense (even if I wouldn’t agree on some crimes) if people were deported immediately following their sentence, however I’m struggling to square how people can commit crimes, be punished and then be deported several years down the line
Also from the outside, given the known issues with Windrush it seems appalling that the government is pressing on with these without the findings from that review being published, although I would concede I’m not close enough to the ins and outs to know if there is a chance of there being an error or failing in these cases |  |

Both Conservative and Labour Governments have continued the law that any foreign national commits a crime, especially serious offences will be deported after their sentence is complete. It was the law introduced by the Labour government in 2007, the law actualy states "a deportation order must be made", a Labour Gov which both Corbyn and Abbott were part of I believe. The Gov are following the law that's why even Abbott isn't even claiming they're breaking the law.
These people being deported weren't forced to commit a crime and it sounds as if there are some serious offences committed including rape which means there will be victims as part of those offences who also have rights, unless your saying they were forced to rape and all received a custodial sentence of 12 months or more. All governments priority should be to protect the public. If these weren't foreign nationals then I would agree they should stay in this country. |  | | |
