It's gone too far, I was following a thread on Facebook shaming people for not clapping for the NHS. It's almost like another reason to divide the bloody country.

Nothing says 'the NHS is vital' better than bullying people.

I've never seen you as a hero either, I always assumed you were a literal blue badger.

But on a serious note, I agree.

With his posts giving insight into what's happening 'on the front line', he's clearly a literary blue badger.

As I've said before, I'd prefer it if people showed their appreciation by never voting Tory ever again, but it provides a bit of an outlet for people and as I said above, a lot of my colleagues are genuinely touched by it. I'm just a miserable old git who'd rather not have this level of attention foisted on me.

That said, I'm probably going to write an update today and/tomorrow that shows that I CAN be touched by gestures of appreciation..

Nah, I'm just not very keen on being centre of attention when I'm not in control of it. Thursday nights when I've not been working I'm been closeted well away in the house wit the windows shut.

‘Look at me’ culture in full flow, bet they all were filing it or taking photos for the ‘Gram.

I just stood on my doorstep, thought that was the whole point?

We can't even clap outside our front door as it's too close to the evil sods next door so we go out the back door and clap out there. But nobody can see us, so others round here think we don't care! Cannot win.

I predicted the rise of clapping fascism a week or so ago.

The thing is whilst clapping is a good thing to do, people are now starting to think that, ergo, not clapping must be a bad thing to do.

Also telling people that they must do it appeals to the control freaks, of whom there are plenty.

It's funny how people can get so het up about what is essentially an empty gesture. Like Badger says, show your support at the ballot box, not by being a clapping fascist.

But I'd bet my bottom dollar that once all this is over it'll soon be forgotten and the NHS will remain in its current parlous state.

No, the fascists are the ones who tell anyone who voted in the way that got us where we are that they should consider their actions.

Freedom is allowing people to clap away with cognitive dissonance without scrutiny.

The government's true feelings about has been summed up recently in Priti Patel's non-apology and Matt Hancock's endless empty gestures.

The succession of tweets by Chris Williams on this subject sums it up brilliantly, I think.

It's turned into a "look at me, I care more about the NHS than you" thing. See the images above.

If you truly care about the NHS, don't fecking vote Tory.

Why politicise it. So if you only Labour voter's are allowed to show your appreciation for the NHS. Therefore to win such a landslide victory in a general election must a mean a large number of NHS & union members must of voted conservative.

It's turning into the whole Poppy thing all over again.

Don't get me wrong, the appreciation is nice and all that, but the one-upping and slightly cultish air it's starting to develop is bothering me a bit much now.
Granted, I've never seen myself as a hero, even when I've done what people tell me are extraordinary things, so I find the whole thing a bit embarrassing but a lot of my colleagues seem to like it and it appears to give people something to do to raise their own morale then, hey.

I know a couple of ambulancemen who voted tory, but they are only concerned with closing borders to foreigners. This is what you're up against in the UK.

Whatever way you view the Government's response to this crisis, this clapping business is embarrassing and has got out of hand. It needs to be put out to roost.

The police and others on Westminster Bridge the other night should take a look at themselves, preaching social distancing and then having a good old clafest on the bridge while standing next to each other.

Remember people, the army are on your side. The police are with those in authority.
