Pretty damning assessment of the Government on Panorama 19:47 - Apr 27 with 3997 views | bournemouthblue | It really isn't good watching I know Panorama can be a bit more left leaning than the usual BBC News output but they are asking the hard questions who the Tory Government will not want the media to be asking

Understand that London appears to be seeing the biggest slowdown and regional figures appear to be little changed and guessing you are outside of London? From your experience is the situation much different to a few weeks ago and are you seeing any trends? |

Thanks. I watched it. Found it a little bit drawn out and repetitive (as all programmes are these days, I’ve no idea why they assume you didn’t hear a point the first two times they tell you). But that’s an aside. Damning indeed though. Pretty poor show if lack of preparedness with PPE was one of the main reasons the virus was reclassified. Especially after they were warned last year and did nothing. No surprise though; it’s consistent with their fudging the numbers approach on this and other things.

I am no medical expert but my understanding was it was downgraded from HCID because its mortality / infection rate was not in the same ball park as the ebolas etc of the world. HCID would obviously need more extreme measures of isolation and protection for anyone treating anyone infected. Plus it appears there are a very limited number of Hospitals that have the facilities to treat HCID, 2 for HCID and another 4 for airborne HCID. [Post edited 28 Apr 2020 10:29]

MrsN works at a hospital and they sent out PPE updated requirements. It’s piss poor that they don’t have the PPE they need. I also understand why the PPE isn’t currently available. Our over reliance on cheap goods from the Far East has been a massive issue. It’s scary how brexity that sounds.

Not sure if you are including me in your post as I didn't vote Tory. I haven't seen the program but I will watch it tomorrow night with a balanced view. I haven't seen todays posts on here until now as ironically I have been on the phone with Public Health England all morning regarding PPE

I'm getting e-mails from all sorts of suppliers trying to sell stuff at a rip off rate. Companies that have previously supplied us flooring etc in on the act. I know it's business, but leaves a bad taste

Agree. Say it's been misinterpreted, quote Churchill, get Boris to smile and flop his hair and we are back to normal. Worst case scenario is say it needs an independent investigation that takes 3 years and blames everyone collectively and no one specifically.

PHE are asking us for one million FFP2 masks on a regular supply. Half the reason why they are bogged down is because they are receiving thousands of emails a day from chancers trying to sell them a load of cr4p because they have found a shed selling dodgy gear on Ali Baba. I am no expert but I know a bit about what is going on and most of what you see, read and hear is absolute b0llocks Unfortunately people want to hear what they want to hear and by and large media sources tend to write and say what their audience wants to hear, this is why when looking at a newspaper stand and glancing at the headlines you will see that we are anything ranging from an impending cure to impending mass death.

At 3-4x the price you'd expect to pay for it normally...... Guess construction industry needs them for their sites, but we aren't back yet and can't see when we will be - need to build some work up before we can think about it as very unlikely our core work is going to pick up any time soon

We are now starting to pick up again, discussions with clients about control measures and what can be done. Still got some staff on furlough but looking at them coming back in over next two weeks. It does feel like people want to try and get some projects back underway, even on reduced capacity.

I read somewhere that they will hopefully be able to get all C-19 cases to Nightingale hospitals to free up the general ones - which will surely help with PPE levels as won't need to be so much used. Sounds like the Govt regret taking procurement into Whitehall rather than leaving it with the NHS a few weeks back

Problem is we are in the hospitality sector - so no one knows when coming back so they won't want to spend money at this moment. And residential/domestic - so people don't want you in their house. Have got jobs lined up - one of them's daughter is pregnant and they were going to move in with them for a bit which now can't happen; another one is for a frontline NHS Dr and they were going to move in with her partner's parents (60+) which now can't happen; another one has 5 kids at home so can't work round there; and it's like that everywhere we turn. Furlough scheme been a godsend, but just for me it's going to start to crank up financial pressure imminently so we'll just see how it goes from here
