The worst company you've ever had to deal with 10:36 - May 5 with 2726 views | gtsb1966 | If you can get any worse than TalkTalk I'll be surprised. Just got my daughter out of a contract with them free of charge after three months of utter frustration. They sent engineers out on two separate occasions yet the broadband still was dropping out on average four times an hour. The speed was painfully slow. They resolved nothing yet each time i made a phone call said id have to give them thirty days to resolve it. Now with another supplier and no trouble at all. How talk talk are still going I'll never know especially when you read the reviews. [Post edited 5 May 2020 10:38]

Not forgetting a decent percentage (think it's around half) of the licence fee is actually spent on supporting arts and culture in society more generally, so it doesn't just stop with what's on the box.

British Gas eh? That's privatisation for you.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 13:41 - May 5 by Sarge | I’ve already paid for it so I watch reruns of Frasier on channel 4 and use the bbc news site. Quite how that can come to £150 a year is beyond me. I would happily switch to another news site if it meant no license fee. The best thing about the bbc is the international football coverage every two years, beyond that it’s just game shows and unfunny sitcoms. |
I'm not sure I follow your thinking... In terms of BBC television just being "unfunny sitcoms" - Killing Eve, Fleabag, His Dark Materials, The Night Manager, Blue Planet, Normal People, People Just Do Nothing, Inside Number 9, This Country are all bloody great. I suspect you've watched the odd episode of Match of the Day too... Panorama do superb investigative journalism, Horizon is brilliantly informative and there's a variety of niche blogs such as the BBC Ouch blog which really help all kinds of communities all across the UK. Louis Theroux's new podcast is on BBC Sounds and bloody great, you can also watch a lot of his previous work on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four always has brilliant documentaries on! I haven't even mentioned their radio or news service... If you're looking for sitcoms that aren't "unfunny" Channel 4 offer some superb original comedy, Catastrophe was particularly enjoyable and I also recently enjoyed "Feel Good" I'm not really a fan of ITV so can't recommend much there but no matter what way you look at it you get a lot for your money. I wish more organisations would "scam" me like this. [Post edited 5 May 2020 14:04]

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 12:38 - May 5 by Sarge | Tv licensing although I’m not sure they qualify as a company. Tv license is basically a massive government run scam but despite them being very quick with threatening letters demanding payment, they’re surprisingly very slow at issuing refunds. A scam run by scum. |

Quite - not only supports & invests in music & arts projects throughout the UK incl at grass roots level & its own orchestras + well known fests such as the Proms, but also the OU & the magnificent BBC/OU collaberative documentaries. Also worth remembering that without the BBC, the OU would never have got off the ground, but is now regarded as a leading University held in the highest regard all over the world - including by its millions of students/former students.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 14:52 - May 5 with 883 views | britbiker | Both parents died within a year of each other two and three years ago I was executor and had power of attorney in both cases, Having to deal with utility companies on both occasions was either a blessing or horrific, Trying to explain that one had died but the other was still living seemed a challenge to some, Making sure they didn't cut essential services was a daily phone battle. However dealing with probate and Government departments was the worst. They were all very sorry for their slow service but couldn't understand that waiting a year to finalise a basic probate case was no use. Luckily most departments are now interlinked but this is based on trying to reclaim any money they can from the estate if the deceased had received any sort of benefits. I have no problem with this but the simply could understand how my dad had any sort of savings at death; albeit minor, as benefits were to be spent not saved. I had to go back over ten years of Bank accounts to prove he hadn't lied. Nationwide were brilliant and spent many hours digging through legacy systems. I advised the Probate dept that we needed to speed things up as waiting a whole year to release funds is a long time for someone in their mid eighties. A year later I finally received Probate and gave my mum the huge £20;000 including all life policies etc. No more than a month later she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died a few months later without being able to enjoy the money, Government departments like probate need to understand that its not just paperwork its someones future they are dealing with.

I can’t deny you get a lot for your money and there’s a lot of things in both yours and Ryorry’s lists that appeal to lots of people. But not me. I last watched MOTD about 6 years ago and I’ve not seen anything else you mentioned. I’m sure they’re very good but I’ve zero interest in taking the time to find out! I’ve not sat down and measured my time but I’m certain Netflix makes up the majority of my viewing, followed by YouTube and a negligible portion of ‘live’ tv.

I suppose the main issue for me with TV Licensing, which supersedes any issues with the BBC and its programming, is the 'guilty by default' attitude of the BBC/Capita. There seems to be a general stance that it's simply not possible to not (want to) use any of the services covered by the TV Licence and, similarly, they do like to push the narrative that to merely possess a TV requires a licence. Regardless of the rights or wrongs of the principle of TV Licensing, the enforcement of it seems very heavy-handed and almost Mafia-like. It's just not the way we do things in Britain.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 15:30 - May 5 by Sarge | I gather it’s quite difficult to prove, especially since I have a tv and both virgin and sky connections were already installed when I moved in. When I lived in Suffolk I listened to the radio on away matchdays but I don’t live there anymore and since they can’t broadcast football over the internet I don’t listen to it. I actually don’t even own a radio haha! The scum wasn’t directed at the bbc, it was whoever operates the license fee enforcement/refunds service, now revealed to be Capita to whom scum I think can certainly apply! |
And based on yours and Ryorry's posts - therein lies the problem. It is for Capita to prove that you're undertaking licensable activity without a licence, rather than for you to have to prove to them that you don't need one. Not that that small fact seems to deter them and their tactics in the slightest.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 11:30 - May 5 by Ryorry | BT. 100 faults on old house landline over 20 year period, some lasting as long as 6 weeks, and no mobile signal in that area. Openreach got postcode wrong & wouldn't let me correct it because they required proof of my ID which was, you guessed it - postcode! and they wouldn't believe that it was they who'd got it wrong, not me, despite their BT billing section saying it was me who was correct, not them! So engineers coming out to those 100 faults always went to wrong house 4 miles away. Problem was only sorted by me moving house after 20 years!! |
Not sure this is BT's fault, if you'd moved house sooner it would have been resolved much more quickly.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 16:00 - May 5 with 819 views | IpswichKnight | Another one for BT 1) Modem suddenly stopped working phone BT up to tell them several hours later they realised it was actually not working and would need to get an engineer in asked when that could happen was told 2 weeks at the earliest told them that was not acceptable and would they refund me for not being able to use the internet was told no as it was openreaches fault, booked an engineer and was told if they didn't turn up i'd get get £20. Guess what happened didn't turn up had to wait another 2 weeks and still didn't get a refund 2) same thing happened at new house but this time I was wise to them as they kindly sent me a new modem for the new house but I kept the old one so when that old one stopped working I just switched them over instead of waiting 2 weeks for an engineer it took me 2 seconds to switch it over.

TV licensing don't know their a**e from their elbow. Sometime, before I moved into my flat - there's 3, No's 1,2 and 3. - someone put Flat A as their address. Since then TV licensing have sent a threatening letter every month to flat A. I collected all the letters and wrote "Address does not exist" and re-posted them but still the letters come. They have never visited the property to my knowledge.

The worst company you've ever had to deal with on 06:41 - May 6 with 713 views | Churchman | Back in the day I was insane enough to buy a 9 month old Rover 214. It had received good reviews and I thought, looks nice, like the colour, why not. because it was cr&p, that’s why not. From the start it creaked and rattled like a child’s toy and within a few months developed a little oil leak. No problem thinks I, just a gasket. The car goes in for its service some months later. Not only are the staff bored, scruffy looking and late in looking at it, by the time they’ve finished and a number of visits later, they’ve damaged the camshaft, tell me the engine is ruined and want £1000s to replace it. I wasn’t entirely happy. Despite being polite, but demanding, patient but persistent, carefully aggressive at the correct time, legally accurate I’m still getting zippo out of them but disinterest and rudeness. I’ve no idea how the conversation came about, but I managed through a contact of mine to get the personal number of the Chairman of Rover Group and got through to him first go. The result was an interesting conversation and that the problem was resolved without cost to me. Needless to say, after the pile of junk was fixed, I sold it as soon as I could. The product was rubbish. The service was rubbish. The ability of the mechanics was rubbish. Everything was rubbish - apart from the colour. They of course went bust and deservedly so. United Airlines take some beating too. Awful airline. Got told off once for talking to my ski buddy because an old hag of an air hostess was sleeping on the central isle spare seats and wanted complete peace and quiet. [Post edited 6 May 2020 6:50]

When I moved to Suffolk 4 and a bit years ago having bought a house I needed a settee. Go to their display shop in Chelmsford and I find the perfect one. Can I buy this one please? 7 weeks to deliver? Go on, 7 weeks on a fcking bean bag it is. Production problems so you can't even take an order? Why display at item you can't even sell? I'll take that one, ex display, how much you want for it? You won't sell me a displayed settee cos you need it to keep on enticing customers like me who you can't sell it to? You know what, think I'll try somewhere else. I was surprising calm all things considered.
