Not sure I've ever seen a lower blow from any elected representative. She's clearly using an out of context clip of Starmer talking about and condemning previous actions in the grooming gangs scandal and presenting it as if he's advocating them.

Edit: As the coward has now protected her tweets, a link to what she retweeted is below.

Imagine being so rattled that you're willing to twist a story about abused children to make a party political point.

Here's the full video:

Weird. I thought Westmonster had just slipped off somewhere, a budget British Breitbart. Seems not.

It's just bizarre.

And that story was made 20 minutes ago. Absolutely no context around it.

Lucy Allen is a piece of work, if anyone has some spare time and wants to fill it with a bit of Googling. This probably isn't close to being her worst moment as an MP so far.

Aaron Banks funded it with some of his money, obviously his money and not from any shady sources whatsoever.

They could do with someone who knows anything about UX design as the site is genuinely awful.

Looks like something you would have found on GeoCities.

And also this:

Parliamentary guidelines on the use of social media

https://www.parliament.uk/documents/speaker/digital-democracy/Digi096CIPR.pdf

1)Tweet yourself and be yourself
2)Tell the truth, all the time
3)Talk less than you listen
4)Tools make it easier and more effective
5)Your team can help you, but can’t do it for you
6)Tweets should never be deleted
7)Hashtags improve engagement, but should be used sparingly
8)Lists save you time
9)Your views aren’t your own
10)Photos and video make it more interesting

Guidelines not a code of conduct so probably not sanctionable, but nevertheless she seems to have fallen foul of a couple of those guidelines

9. “Your views aren’t your own”?! Whose are they then?

I think she's actually deleted her whole account now. The nuclear option.

Extraordinary.

One could just post a retraction and clarification with an apology to put things right. Instead, viewers are blocked- so that the echo chamber within can continue unabated.

She hasn't, and hasn't protected her account either, so anyone can see it. I've just followed her so even if she puts the padlock on I should be able to continue watching her.

EDIT - Sorry, that's incorrect - it's Lucy Allan I followed, not Maria Caulfield - apols for the confusion!

Of all those involved, Nadine Dorries should be most ashamed. Sharing an edited video implying that someone had effectively allowed child abuse will obviously have an impact on their mental wellbeing.

She's completely unsuitable to be minister for suicide prevention of all things.

Even if they are caught bang to rights, many of their voters won't care.

In 2018 the Mansfield MP had to publish an apology on Twitter after defaming Corbyn. He increased his majority from 1,000 to 16,000 at the next election.

One thing Twitter really needs is some kind of retract and apologise function that allows someone to retract a tweet and notify everyone who has liked, commented or retweeted that the tweet has been withdrawn.

That point means that you cannot get away with saying things like "these views are my own", as a representative of a political party anything tweeted is seen as representing the party viewpoint.

It might be clearer if they said 'these views are not just your own"

It is explained in the PDF

Yeah that's a decent point about the voting record, I still think that moderate Tories should be standing up against things like disability cuts but not really worth arguing over on here.

Yeah her twitter's proper conspiracy/crank stuff. She was in a zoom call recently with Chris Williamson and said something about the Anti-semitism "witch hunt" targeting black women. Someone responded saying how she was good at calling out the real racists, so I replied asking if she'd called out herself, and I got blocked... Shame, as her tweets were good for the comedy value, despite the nasty intentions behind the,.

To be fair, you came across as a bit cranky and nasty yourself.
