Felt should have been far ,far bigger than what they were, this is absolutely majestic and pre-empted shoe gaze. This particular tune is aided by the sheer wondrousness of Liz Fraser.

Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins fame?
I guess Cocteau Twins were fairly big but they should've been bigger.

Whipping Boy - 90s indie band should have been much much bigger than what they were. In an age where even Menswear achieved some sort of success I don’t understand why they didn’t.
Don't really know much about Whipping Boy, but I always remember this one and it's majestic. Love the lyrics;

Seen Thunder loads live with footers snr. Are they still going?! I remember them doing a tour a year pretty much, just like Hamsters used to.

Still going dear boy, though like many of us are looking considerably older. Saw them at the regent on their "Please Remain Seated" tour last year, a very fine accoustic set indeed. Danny Bowes has one of rocks finest voices imo.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.
I always thought The Dogs D'Amour should have been bigger than they were. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but at a time when GnR were massive, they had a similar if slightly more laid back vibe.
Carter USM too - some banging tunes and fantastic live, but never really took off (bit of a one album band, that was their trouble).

The Longpigs
Was just thinking Longpigs would be a good shout. Excellent first album. Not so much the second. And Richard Hawley on guitar. Why weren’t they a bigger deal in the 90s?

I quite like the second album, very different from the first and more of an acquired taste I think. They were hugely dysfunctional, which is why the second album took about 3 years and still doesn't necessarily sound fully coherent. They came up during the Britpop era but didn't really fit the Britpop mould, they also had some terrible luck at key times in their career that contributed to stalling them.

You're joking about Carter surely? Massively took off; had several hits, several very good albums, performances on TOTP and a sizeable fanbase. I wouldn't even know which album you're referring to as their "one album"?!

The Faces.
Had Rod Stewart not had a solo career they could have been as big as the Stones.
Except that Ronnie Lane's multiple sclerosis would have brought his involvement in the band to a premature end, the documentary the BBC did (The Travelling Show?) about his life was very revealing about rock music and the characters around it.
There were some great bands around in Ipswich / Colchester in the early 80s that maybe some here will have seen and deserved more than local recognition.
Off the top of my head The Reasonable Strollers, Panorama in Black, Nagamatzu, Still Life in Action, The Boredom Brothers. Whilst up in Norwich bands like The Higsons and Farmers Boys got some exposure (mainly via John Peel) that didn't really happen in Ipswich.
