I did. Got to own it. When I was younger I spent a lot of time listening to right wing podcasts. That sounds worse than it was...I only listened when they were talking about economics. Right wing finance people are pretty much all part of the Austrian school and the difference interested me. Looking back I think it brainwashed me to a large extent. I never believed the vast majority of the ridiculous conspiracies but I guess it starts to sink in subconsciously. Clinton is a real target of their hate for some reason.
I also read sites like Zero Hedge, Daily Reckoning, economic collapse blog etc which wasn't a great idea. They all attack the mainstream media constantly so in time you go to that less and less and go to the 'alternative media' more and more.
I stopped listening/reading that content about three years ago and 'tuned in' again to more mainstream media. A good decision and since i've got three things right in my opinion. Labour, labour again and now Biden. That's practically a streak...
Which brings me on to something else I was wrong about. Giving all these pr1cks an equal platform.

A combination of things which seem stupid now. Brainwashed over Clinton and a weird fascination to see if it could actually happen. Would 'they' allow him to become president. Who are they? No idea.
Even a year ago I just thought Trump was just a bit of a cock and couldn't really understand the rabid hostility towards him. Obviously he's since gone full tilt and the stakes suddenly seem very real. In my mind he's gone from relatively harmless clown to dangerous loon.

I watched. He was sincere, eloquent and very much in tune. Which you would expect of someone who was president of the country but also as a black man in America who has no doubt felt the effect of racism in America.
I don't think he was an amazing president, but I'm not incredibly knowledgable on it, so I won't make a huge comment on that.
But as a person and as a man that can inspire people and encourage especially young people to change, he is incredible. Trump will spit his dummy out because he's a baby and a complete coward. American people in the most part seem to be forcing something, whether Trump agrees with it or not, he can't ignore it, thats the main thing.

Re: giving weight to opinions. In your defence, I do think it's difficult to find reliable sources of opinion and information nowadays. They're there but increasingly hard to see the wood for the trees.
I read a fair bit on all sides and one thing I've found is it's increasingly important to read the About section and the Wikipedia entry for sources that are otherwise interesting, and especially the ones you keep seeing or coming back to yourself. At some point you have to know who or what is behind the information and opinion, and specifically who might be paying for it. This might give some extra insight into why a scientist is promoting something or why a political commentator is attached to a particular think tank. Also: who else is using them as a source? Or saying the same thing independently? Generally, I'd say 99% of stuff is unreliable just on its own evidence.
It's not easy and it definitely takes extra time but it pays off when you start spotting the dangerous and flaky stuff. And beyond that you also get a feeling for the sheer amount of active misinformation and propaganda out there.

I don’t recall anyone engaging in hypothetical scenarios about who they’d vote for if they were American. I certainly didn’t.
What I did believe at the time was that Trump was so insular that he would be a better option for world peace than Clinton, who had a very poor relationship with Putin. She’d also shown very poor judgement in Libya and I believed the last thing the world needed at the time was another American President who wanted be the world’s policeman.
I was very much mistaken in that view as Trump has ratchet up the chance of war with China with his rhetoric.
His decision to tear up the Iran agreement was another poor foreign affairs decision and one that I recognised three years ago.
