Interesting and good that people with a voice are standing up to this.

A lawyer on Today even floated the idea of cancelling ALL historical statues, paintings, and physical memorials because 'standards change and people whom today seem great may be hiding dark secrets'
Bonkers.

Am all for free speech. Owen Jones and his cabal can scream "offence" until their lungs turn inside out. Makes my blood boil if you hadn't guessed.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

what you're failing to grasp is that biological women don't exist any more, at least not as a category that matters. any one can now be a woman. it is the ultimate culmination of misogyny - define away biological women as an irrelevance and tell them to shut up. just another way in which people with penises get to set the rules. hurrah.

Do you think there'll be a day when you won't make something up to get cross and/or sneer at?

defining biological women away as a significant category - i can't think of anything more misogynist to be honest.

What Lowhouseblue is able to think of isn't, luckily, the standard by which we can judge what is and isn't misogyny.

I'm not sure it's the standard by which we can judge anything to be honest.

You've massively embarrassed yourself with that last post but no doubt you'll be too arrogant see it.

Before the thread plunges to silly depths, I'm more interested in someone explaining to me how or why I'm wrong, care to have a go lowie?

Are you one of those in favour of separate toilets for transgender people? Seems somewhat dehumanising to me.

'the ultimate culmination of misogyny'

I'm definately feeling uncomfortble watching a group of men tell a woman how she should feel about these issues.

Think there's truth in what you say, but have no idea how this one gets cleared up. 4th toilets aren't going to make trans people feel 'normal' or accepted, but why shouldn't a woman express her doubts about letting people with willies into their facilities, especially given the history of violence against women.

so difficult.

I think you're very right, expressing your concerns regardless of their validity is your right as an individual, but implying an otherness in transgender women is out of order and suggesting they have their own bathroom is absolutely dehumanising in my opinion.

Many moons ago I had a piece of work that crossed over with Suffolk Rape Crisis, it was eye opening, I think maybe those who are concerned about random transgender men assaulting women in public bathrooms need educating not only about transgender issues but about rape/violence towards women.

Bully klaxon!

Nobody ever responds to your points because your points are always either incredibly stupid or nonsensical, and treating them with respect would be below any semi-sentient being.

The village marrow growers club might nod in all the right places while you drone on over tea and Battenburg, albeit with dead eyes and a desperate desire to be anywhere else rather than listening to you, but one can only imagine what they say about you after you've gone.

So, my advice to you would be to stick to your echo chamber mate, you'll be much happier there than out here in the real world.

There were pages of back and forth discussion between several posters on the subject before you jumped in late with a typically ill-informed comment.

Always laughable when someone who never engages or takes anyone else's points on board cries about other people not taking things seriously.

I think enough time has probably been spent on Steptoe now. I agree with Libby, the thread and the topic would be better served by ignoring his damp panted witterings and getting back to the subject at hand.

It's almost if the point of transitioning is to be identified as your new chosen gender, not singled out for it.

I can see why Rorory would suggest a 4th toilet in fairness. It seems like sharing the women's is an unstoppable object vs and imovable one - it's a real clash of rights, so bang there's the solution. Except its not really a solution that can work for trans people.

Fcking nightmare.

Re the rape in the chnaging room hypothetical, I think there's a generational issue here which goes way beyond that scenario.

My mum for instance would probably be considered by many as a transphobe, but she fought her way through early life in a world where men controlled everything and she was expected to stay in the kitchen, not work and have babies quicktime. Having fought against that, she fights back against what she sees as men eating into hard-won rights that women like her made possible for following generations.

I don't think this is a simple right/wrong issue, like racism say.

All I would say is that having lived through the age of both major civil rights suppression and civil rights moments, its a shame many older people can't channel that experience into having empathy for the people who are still fighting that fight rather than pulling up the ladder.

Not sure what the downvote was for Ryorry. I didn't feel it too controversial to hope that some people who themselves have suffered discrimination develop a greater mindfulness about the suffering that still continues for others today,

Do you not see how doing this would be no different to asking homosexual men to go to different toilets? It's dehumanising and a conscious "othering" of a minority.

The action of assuming a transgender woman is going to rape you purely because they (might) have a penis is not only logistically flawed but prejudice.
There's no actual data or facts to back up these irrational fears.
It's a more socially palatable "backs against the wall lads, X is coming in, don't want to get bummed"

Your Mum sounds like a cool woman, strong and determined and focused.
Women like that should be celebrated, that doesn't mean that if they think something that's a bit silly and ignorant we can't challenge it though.
No one should have immunity from having their prejudice checked.

Respect your response and appreciate the sensible debate.
