People seem to be mistaking our number of CM options with actual quality of CMs.
Yes, we have a number of players who can play that role, pretty much all of them are either hugely injury prone or just downright useless.
Downes has been our only consistent midfielder for 2 years. Losing him will be a huge blow to the quality of our first team. |
Be fair, most of the rest have been consistent as well, Nolan and Judge have been consistently ineffective, Skuse constantly getting slower, Bishop consistently fit next month... |  |

If Palace came in with a £600m offer for Downes we’d bite their hands off (whilst also introducing them to a Nigerian Prince who we’ve received an email off who wants to give us money). If someone does that with Barcelona over Messi they’d reject it as they will not sell below the release clause. Barcelona can afford to reject that kind of money; we can’t. Whilst Evans has said we do not need to sell over the summer it doesn’t mean we won’t reject bids which we feel meet our valuation, which, for Downes, seems to be around the £4m mark. |

I still think people will be surprised at how low the initial fee will be that we will accept.
One thing I think we can all agree on with regards to football transfers is that none should be announced as "undisclosed". The fee should always be announced when the signing is confirmed. |  | | |
