SNP MP Travels with Coronavirus on 08:21 - Oct 2 by itfcjoe | HAs to be sacked, it's utterly ludicrous (as Cummings should have been). Him not being sacked is no excuse for her not to be. Could be a very interesting Labour v SNP by election too if she does go |
I'm pretty sure you cant be sacked as an MP. Constituents can call for a by election, or the MP can resign.

Yes, I think having the whip removed is as far as the party can go for now. Resignation or an effective sacking by contituents by recalling her would be the only 2 options (I think?).

SNP MP Travels with Coronavirus on 08:21 - Oct 2 by Swansea_Blue | Sturgeon has very strongly condemned her (it's in the article you linked). And the clamour for resignation has been pretty loud from all corners. This isn't going the way you hoped is it? That's the trouble with trying to play this tribal game, rather than looking at each event on it's own merits. |
What are you talking about? I posted a link for discussion. What have I said on here that’s ‘tribal’?

Think you can only be recalled if you are convicted and receive a custodial sentence. She could b3 suspended by the speaker I suppose.

No, I was just highlighting how stupid the individual MP was. I’m sure if she phoned up sturgeon and told her she was in London, had tested positive and needed to get home to isolate Sturgeon would have sanctioned the costs of a private vehicle on the SNP credit card to avoid the negative publicity!

Ah yes, agreed. And yep, very stupid. I'm not sure the one defence I've seen helps her much either

SNP MP Travels with Coronavirus on 10:19 - Oct 2 with 4440 views | Darth_Koont | The SNP can’t make her resign but she’s had the whip removed, been suspended from the party and they are pushing for her to stand down as an MP. We’ll have to see what Ferrier does. But she’s broken public trust in a time of crisis as well as being criminally negligent. So don’t see that she’s got a future as an MP or in the SNP itself if she doesn’t stand down.

I hope she does resign her seat she is of no use to SNP now. Any resignation would put Pressure in Johnson, and to a lesser extent Starmer, to take action when the next idiot advisor, or front bencher , breaks the rules. Starmer needs to ask Johnson at next PMQs to give an undertaking to sack anyone in his cabinet, or advisor, breaks the rules. The chances of anyone mistakenly breaking the main rules are minimal. Any such action would be wanton.

Yeah, I think that looks entirely the SNP’s position after Sturgeon, Blackford and others are saying she should resign. Ferrier doesn’t have a leg to stand on but her standing down now would probably allow her some future involvement in politics and the SNP. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if she tries to brazen it out as an independent. So far, the “right thing to do” doesn’t seem to have stood much chance against her selfish interests.

And I assume Boris will quite rightly reply to Starmer 'why didn't you sack Corbyn as he is a MP and broke the rules'
SNP MP Travels with Coronavirus on 11:41 - Oct 2 with 4383 views | hampstead_blue | Can't sack her for that. Why is every mistake a sackable offence! It's her livelihood for crying out loud. You can't take that away for a mistake. Whatever happened to proportionate rollokings?
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.

You don't think breaking the law and jeopardising public health in the middle of a pandemic should be a sackable offence? I'm not one for witch-hunts but the response to this seems entirely proportionate to me, it's a pretty big deal. Where would you draw the line?

SNP MP Travels with Coronavirus on 19:24 - Oct 1 by 26_Paz | This is worse than Cummings: 1. Cummings was in a car, this individual was on a public train. 2. She travelled the morning after receiving a positive test result. Beyond words stupid. It’s also illegal now I think ... really don’t see how she can stay ... |
The government broke UK law before the election and nternational law after the election. Of course she has nothing to answer for. On the other hand posturing SNP will want to do the right thing.... a by election with a hugely increased majority will do them no end of good... and might even produce an MP who has an iota of common sense and repsect for the electorate, let alone the law.

I read she's 60 - maybe she's got an eye on being paid until a better retirement age and screw eveeryone else? Agreed this ins't on the SNP (which is a shame - arf!)

Think her retirement is secure as an ex-MP. But yeah, another 4 years until an election would fill the gap. However, her constituents would undoubtedly force a by-election so it’s academic. Not sure she’s going to get a better result than taking full responsibility and standing down, and maybe getting a party job in return.

Being in a seat that was closely contested between Labour and SNP you can see why the leadership want her out ASAP - if she clings on and then goes the by election will be much tougher to fight
