..and we got our panties in a bunch and forced a competent manager out?

Brilliant!

That didn't cause this, it just pre-dated it. Not a helpful post imo

Don't you ever think that maybe Mick had had enough of working under Evans? Of having to pick players up on the cheap only to see them sold for millions, but not be given the funds?

Not to mention that if he had stayed/signed a new contract, when Ireland came knocking, he would still have left to manage them.

It's bad enough being where we are, being what we are now, without constant reminders that a tiny, tiny minority of fans helped force him out and hastened our demise.

It wasn"t the fans who appointed Hurst or Lambert or wanted to sell Webster, Bart, Waghorn and Garner and replace them with lower league players. Those are the reasons for the decline not just Mick leaving

While the anti-McCarthy chants were a bit much, I'd be shocked if that was what made Evans choose not to renew his contract. I'd expect it was the 13000 (and lower) crowds that made up Evans' mind.

It definitely wouldn't be fair to blame fans for choosing to not go to games, so you're wrong to blame the fans.

Just because people like me wanted McCarthy gone, doesn’t mean I wanted two village idiots to succeed him. I just wanted something a bit better that the dross and arrogance McCarthy was serving up. I didn’t think that was too much to ask, but clearly it was given how rotten this club is.

No, but the players you're praising there were Mick signings so the credit also has to be acknowledged.

He built a half decent side a few times over on a restricted budget.

Yes, something had to change, but to pretend that wasn't the beginning of this would be somewhat disingenuous.

But he didn't see out the contract, so that's beside the point.

Yea it was better, clearly, but I find it odd that some people think we should have just accepted mid table mediocrity forever with football which many fans found boring.

You're really criticising fans for daring to hope for more.

MM was great but even he had flaws. Refusing to to go for it when we had an outside chance at the play offs and were safe from relegation. Everything was so comfortable. We were just also rans. We used to take the piss out of Stoke for doing that in the Prem but we should have been happy doing it in the Championship?

We took a gamble and it went wrong. By the same logic maybe we should keep Lambert in case the next manager is even worse (is that possible?).

Yeah but that was McCarthy's choice after it had been made public he wasn't having his contract renewed.
OP blames the fans, I say he's wrong to. That's actually a direct response to the point fella.

The OP blames the fans for forcing him out when he left.

Which he's right, that's not in contention surely.

You're talking about his contract ending which isn't a direct response at all. It may well have been a mitigating factor, sure.

Cheap Shot.

We had lost to Non League Lincoln on live TV. We had Douglas in midfield, we had many other players who simply retired once they had their last pay packet out of us.

The decay has very little to do with managers...
