..and we got our panties in a bunch and forced a competent manager out?

Brilliant!

The manager who took us to our worst league finish in 50 years? Should we have said never mind we are happy with that? The real problem is Evans judgement when appointing a manager.

The OP blames the fans for forcing him out when he left.

Which he's right, that's not in contention surely.

You're talking about his contract ending which isn't a direct response at all. It may well have been a mitigating factor, sure.

I don't think McCarthy walks out early if it's not confirmed he's out of the job though. So maybe the fans did lead to him leaving five games sooner, but that hasn't had any long term effect since he was already confirmed as out of the job at the end of the season.

So while the anti-McCarthy chants were a bit much (especially after he was confirmed as leaving), to me it didn't have any long term effect on the club. Like I said I believe it was the 13000 crowds which made up Evans' mind, and it's out of order to take issue with people choosing not to go to games.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Fans didn’t ‘force’ McCarthy out. Fans were vocal about what they were paying to watch. The minority were in poor taste and chose to vent their frustration incorrectly, others stopped going to save their eyeballs drying out. The decision was made by the board and McCarthy not to continue. Blaming fans for wanting better is a backward logic - using it as a stick to beat them with is pathetic.

See the board and the near unanimous p!ssed off, fed up, frustrated, couldn’t stand another minute of the style and set up of the team... that’s EXACTLY what it was like in micks final months.... half a season

Why do people continue to confuse Marcus terrible selection of managers with why we dropped after mick left... or that the last season under mick was not woeful

Mick had to leave, there is no argument, or re writing history, the football was unwatchable

Where does writing an open letter *cringe* and not accepting any responsibility thereafter come into things on the pathetic scale?

Asking for a hypocrite.

Just because people like me wanted McCarthy gone, doesn’t mean I wanted two village idiots to succeed him. I just wanted something a bit better that the dross and arrogance McCarthy was serving up. I didn’t think that was too much to ask, but clearly it was given how rotten this club is.

But you expected our owner to deliver that with his track record in making appointments and the lack of investment for anyone half-decent coming in if he did get it right? Pretty long odds I think.

Cheap Shot.

We had lost to Non League Lincoln on live TV. We had Douglas in midfield, we had many other players who simply retired once they had their last pay packet out of us.

The decay has very little to do with managers...

True. That Lincoln game on tv was the start of me.thinking Mick wasn't going to go much further with us. Outplayed by a non league team, which practically our first team (plus Leon best haha)

I firmly believe Mick wouldn't have got us promoted, bit wouldnt have got us relegated. Problem is, how long do you just stay stagnant?

We took a risk, and got it very badly wrong. I dont think we could get it much more wrong!

Fairly sure ME didn’t react based on fans opinion on a forum as bizarre as that might be for you to wrap your head around. I think that’s been proven by the scores of open letters gone to the club in recent weeks. Talking of cringe posts, of which many of us make many, it’s your turn under the microscope tonight...enjoy.

So were you expecting Mick to live forever?

I loved what Mick managed and he deserved to leave in a better fashion, but given a choice between that purgatory for years and a potentially exciting unknown I'd always go for the latter, even now.

It didn't work out, the odds were probably stacked against it working out, but something had to change. It was the subsequent decisions that were wrong, not Mick going.

I hate to give you the attention you crave but yes I remember.
You mean the manger who:
had us playing boring dour football,
consistently lined us up at home to defend against teams we ought to have been attacking,
stubbornly picked players irrespective of form and out of position and responded to fans by saying he’d do it everyday of the week if he could,
stated that the more that fans chanted to bring on a player the less likely he would be to do so,
led us to what was at the time our lowest league position for over fifty years.
Oh and memorably told his own fans to feck off.

Isn’t that the standard response someone uses when they realise that most think that their post was drivel? Obviously minus the Guinness- that’s just for weirdos.

Funnily enough most people on here aren't spending their Saturday early evening posting for something like the 960th time since he left, nostalgic wails about our last but one manager who had the team playing unwatchably boring football whilst stagnant in mid-table of the second tier

Delusional if you think getting rid of Mick wasn't the right decision. It's the appointments after Mick left that have got us to this point, not the lack of MM.
