But can we just appreciate how good McGuinness was tonight please?

He has a bizarre ability to be able to kick the ball if he misses a header and head the ball if he misses a kick. Some outrageous touches and turns in the middle of the park too.

He needs that, on account of the amount of headers and kicks he misses. If he was any good he a) wouldn't need that and b) wouldn't be on loan to us.

He was ok, didn’t think he set the world a light. His aerial ability is outstanding, but makes basic mistakes, too be expected at such a tender age.

Have no doubt he’ll develop into a really good CB.

Fair comment. You can't really ignore his attempt to win the ball for their golden chance at the end, which was bad, but he'd done the same thing numerous times before and won the ball convincingly.

He's very wholehearted when it comes to winning the ball, looks a more talented version of Pennington albeit playing in a different league. I thought he was a great watch tonight to be honest.

Plus, I bet they're well pleased with the amount of quality coaching our manager is giving him.

Does a lot of good things, no doubt about it, and could be a real good player.

It is easy to forget he’s still only 19, and this is his first taste of senior football, and you can’t get away from how important it is for a player (look at Woolfenden to Swindon move).

He’s quick, strong, confident, commanding, lots and lots of good qualities, but almost needs to mature a little with his decision making at times, almost a bit too eager sometimes.

As you say prime example at the end, too eager to win the ball making it very easy for the Burton player to skip round him.

And for their goal, Lambert is right, he’s bringing the ball out and hitting a really tough diagonal that gets intercepted, leaving Chambers out of position, and the midfield exposed to the counter.

Good point. He looked exceptional 90% of the time ... has a mistake in him though, iron those out and as others have said he’ll be a really good player.

All young players make mistakes it's how they learn, expecting them not to make a mistake after a handful of first team games is a huge ask. Lets be fair, we have enough experienced players that continually make mistakes. If McGuiness was playing alongside a Mowbray or De Vos at CB, players that would actually manage him through games you'd see a huge difference, he's having to learn on the job, mainly on his own.

He’s going to be a very, very good central defender. He’ll be waaaay above our station that’s for sure. We will one day not too far 8n the future be saying.....” he played for us”.

Sadly the moaning , nit picking and negativity amongst Town fans has become endemic and we are now largely unable to see ANY good in anything associated with this Club. Sad times.

Got away with the header he missed where their right winger turned him and delivered into the box for Akins to miss from 6 yards.

However, a much improved performance from him.

I'm not having McGuinness to blame for that, not every diagonal will come off. The ball was short, granted, but Chambers was so much higher than he needed to be. It was clear almost immediately the ball was poor, Chambers should have been aware of what was behind him.

He did kick the ball straight to their player to set them up for the counter attack they scored from. It left us badly exposed at the back.

I don't know how often I have to repeat this. There is no benefit at all to us of him spending a season here learning from mistakes that are costing us goals most weeks. He's not our player.

He should be aware of the positions of his team mates before trying to hit that pass shouldn't he? Especially as a cb with everything in front of him, it was a horrific attempt at a diagonal and directly lead to the goal. He is ok at this level certainly but he's got a touch of the Penningtons about him, he has to throw himself at things because he's misjudged it and is out of position. He is young and may well go on to be a very good cb through the experience he gains and learning about his position. I would however only have 1 of him or Wolfenden paired with a more experienced defender.

McGuiness was clearly to blame for that. It was a really poor pass that was virtually square and hugely underhit and it left us completely exposed to the counter attack.

Against the bottom team in league 3 ? He ought to be if he wants to be any good. I see players his age playing week in week out in the Premier League.

If I'm blaming anyone for that goal, I'm blaming Jackson for a dreadful attempt at "ending" the counter attack. We don't do sh*thousery as a rule, but he had a perfect opportunity to challenge. he should have gone for man and ball, and at least got the man, but bottled it, and was shrugged off. Burton player should have been flattened.

Whether he goes on to be a top player or not isn't really my concern. My concern is whether he is an asset to us for the season he's here. On what I've seen he makes too many big errors that lead to goals and I don't think him and Woolfie, at a combined age of 40, really works as a CB pairing. My priority would be Woolfie's development over McGuiness's so I'm hoping we reintroduce some experience to the CB pairing soon.
