But it is these firms that are developing the renewable energy technologies. Scotland already produces enough wind power to power (in theory 98% of its homes) and that before Dogger Bank is fully online.
Don't get me wrong, they are not driven by ethical reasons, but to say the UK doesn't/didn't invest in renewable energy is not correct. The tech (not just wind) is still very much in it's infancy, and the margins are much smaller, so natural gas will still play a significant part for the foreseeable future. |

Energy policy as a whole in the last 10-15 years has largely been poorer people subsidising the better off to get their homes insulated and have renewables installed, while schemes to improve the worst housing (in which the poorest people tend to live) have been pretty much destroyed under pressure from energy companies. |  | | |
