"OMG....hope we don't get him. Not a great recent record. He's not the way forward for our club surely!! We need a more modern and progressive manager. You can tell from his punditry that he's a no nonsense, up and at 'em type manager. Everything based on discipline, workrate, crunching tackles and the like. We need a bit more than that."

"I'd be devasted to see Mcarthy come in. Absolute fossil of a manager. Would show there is no long term plan or any sort of DESIRE TO CHANGE OUR STYLE OF PLAY. We are never going to move forward if keep appointing managers like him as when he leaves we'll be right back to square 1."

"I an see why the club would go for McCarthy he is the boring safe choice. Very experienced at this level where he has had quite a bit of success. But the safe choice isn't always the right choice, look at Sheffield Wednesday and Pulis. There must be a bit of suspicion that McCarthy is a bit past he sell by date, there was his dreadful spell in Cyprus and He was not rated very highly by Ipswich fans. Possibly they have a bit better regard for him now as the season after he left they were relegated and don't look like getting out of league one any time soon."

"Looks like our club, Dalman, Choo and Tan will f**k this up again. Mick McCarthy ffs. Go and get Bellamy and get the passion, drive and PLAY FOOTBALL THE FANS WANT. Not Pulis, Hughes or any of these failed managers.

At some point you might be forced to accept that Mick McCarthy has been the best thing for ITFC in the entire time Evans has owned the club.

Although you might choose to argue that we've gone from strength to strength in the 33 months since he left.

You know how people voted for Brexit? It can be a bit like that with football too. People are often pretty clueless — as the below largely demonstrates.

Purely based on his record he’s the most successful Ipswich manager since Joe Royle.

That’s not to say he wasn’t stubborn, soured his relationship with the fans, signed some poor players and played some dour football.

But the facts speak for themselves.

That's not really the highest benchmark to set!

The best thing to happen to the club in over thirteen years isn’t the lowest benchmark you can set either.

No, but I think it became clear what Mick's strengths and weaknesses were and by the time he went, he had to go, the atmosphere was getting thoroughly toxic and he'd become box office poison, regardless of whether he would have kept us in the Championship. The wrong subsequent decisions don't make the one to jettison him incorrect.

But you couldn't argue that Mick himself had exactly gone from strength to strength in that time. The average Cardiff fan will not only still have the aroma of the Premiership in their nostrils, but will know nothing about McCarthy beyond that he was successsful too long ago, and used to give as good as he got to the media.

If we were that average, but Town-supporting fan, and Mick had never actually been here, we would be greeting the thought of him coming here with the same delight raised by the prospect of Phil Parkinson, Steve Cotterill, Phil Brown, Ian Holloway etc, etc

All Marcus' appointment have in some way been negative to the club.

Keane - spent budget, woeful man manager and broke up culture of club
Jewell - spent budget, wasn't a holistic manager, open defence
Mick - by far the best, good purchases, kept us up and provided a play-off run, very negative style and ethos, disconnected style from academy, released good players, left a team low technically and ability to be dynamic (as stated by players and Hurst), poisonous fan relationship
Hurst - completely out of his depth, bad man manager, wasn't the change in footballing style and tactics/technical we needed
Lambert - just not enough depth of tactical/technical ability, questionable man management again, tried to fix the pass and move issues from predecessors, but seems incomplete

MARCUS CANNOT HIRE THE RIGHT MANAGER. MICK INCLUDED... sighs

Mick is the only right manager he ever hired. He took us from rock bottom of the league to finishing top 6 in the space of two and a half years. I'm not sure who else you think we could have appointed at the time that would have done a similar job? It's interesting reading your breakdown that your criticisms of Lambert are less numerous and more tentative than your criticisms of Mick. That's just utterly bizarre.

Agree 100% that it was time for Mick to leave , the atmosphere had become impossible , but haven't we reached a very similar point now with PL ? I just can't see any way back

It does feel very similar, perhaps worse. I don't remember any plans for organised demonstrations being drawn up under Mick, although obviously the situation is unique at the moment with fans not being in a position to show their frustrations at games.

That's the point. There are plenty of other competent managers out there.

Think Mick did a good job for us generally although would still say we should have done much better in his final season with the squad Hurst tore to bits.

Although due to the wonderful 'home' support almost every game was technically an away game. I am sure that MM, the players and most certainly myself were much happier away from Portman Road.

...some fans are remembering the atmosphere at the end of Mick's reign.

The lack of interest and the negativity.

If we would have been at football for the last year things would have been a lot worse this time around.

It wouldn't just be a bedsheet with "In Mick we tRust" written on it.

It's not easy to gauge the feeling of discontent through social media, it would be easy with 15-20 thousand in the ground.

Although that number would be a lot lower now.

Lambert out.
