The EU introduces controls to vaccines to Northern Ireland on 22:03 - Jan 29 by GlasgowBlue | Blimey. Your finger must have been hovering over the keyboard for hours waiting for me to post. Funny that you think it’s only a “Tory” trait when somebody wants what’s best for their own country. Invited Brexit. I regret that, as I think let the negatives outweigh the positives. When it really should have been the other way around. Eurosceptisim has featured very prominently in the Tory media for decades and I’m happy to admit that it seeped into my thinking. I was wrong. I would prefer we were still in the EU. But at least I can now see things form both sides and, unlike certain people, will not slavishly follow one side. [Post edited 29 Jan 2021 22:04]

The EU introduces controls to vaccines to Northern Ireland on 21:54 - Jan 29 by GlasgowBlue | I understand where J2 is coming from. From the morning the referendum result was announced, a small group of promEU posters have framed every argument as the UK government always being in the wrong and the EU always being in the right. During the negotiations there were a small group of posters who appeared to want the UK to fail and the EU to get the upper hand, so to speak. Every bit of bad news regarding Brexit was posted with relish. Any good news was dismissed. I got the feeling that there were some “remainers” on here who were praying the next few years would turn out badly for the country. When I suggested a few moths ago that it would be in everyone’s interest for both sides to compromise in order to reach an amicable settlement, the pro EU consensus in here was why should the EU compromise in anything? We were the bad guys for leaving their club. Now, just a few weeks after concluding the deal everyone is asking for compromise. It’s a funny old world. |
Except from what I’ve seen there has been universal condemnation of the EU’s actions here, which rather disproves the whole premise.

The inability of you and some of your bedfellows to understand alternative views to your own is a weakness that if addressed, would lead to much better discourse on here.

The EU introduces controls to vaccines to Northern Ireland on 20:34 - Jan 29 by Steve_M | Amazing: Total feck up and sense of panic from the Commission. Any government should pause for breath before taking drastic action, it’s a chance to avoid doing something so counter-productively stupid. |
That is priceless....made my evening!

The EU introduces controls to vaccines to Northern Ireland on 22:04 - Jan 29 by BanksterDebtSlave | Nope, the fundamentally depressing thing here is that 'liberals' are so keen to hang their coats on the EU hook. Ffs, people on here have even tried to claim membership as some sort of act of the Internationale spirit! F#kkin' owned! |
That is not only simplistic it also verges on being a blatant lie. Why use this 'moment' to leap onto something like this whilst completely ignoring the effing mess that has been created so far by this attitude some of you are suddenly willing to showcase? It's not just these perceived 'liberals' who go quiet when it suits them. The back-tracking has been clear until now, when suddenly some are feeling empowered again. Right now, countries are worried about getting screwed over for what they consider to be their fair share of vaccines. People are afraid. It's not a joke. It [the 'B' word] has so far been a mess and it's completely dishonest to pretend otherwise. Businesses are losing a fortune and you think it's funny? Fecking 'owned'. Ffs.

And silence from some of the more vocal “blue passports and thick racists” posters who would have been all over this had the roles been reversed. Edit. Yiu have never been in that camp btw. [Post edited 29 Jan 2021 22:15]

No. “ So far, U.K. limits on exports are focused on middlemen or wholesalers who buy medicines intended for patients in one country in order to sell it on for a higher price abroad. Some EU member countries have had similar controls. This means that drugmakers with the right marketing authorization for a drug are still able to export it.

The EU introduces controls to vaccines to Northern Ireland on 21:53 - Jan 29 by BloomBlue | Technically not correct. If the UK was in the EU we could still have done deals on vaccines independently of the EU program as Germany has done. The AZ supply chain would still have suffered the same delays but the irony is the EU can stop exports to the UK now of the pfizer vaccine to help with their shortfall as we're outside of EU but if we had been in the EU they couldn't stop the supply even if we had independent deals. So technically in this situation they would have been in a worse situation if the UK was in the EU |
Unless I’m missing something, that’s irrelevant to my point. The thread is about NI being treated differently than the rest of the UK. That wouldn’t have happened without Brexit and specifically Boris’s ‘deal’ aligning NI to the EU. Sorry, but I’m not really following the logic of your post. It seems to imply that NI would have been better off before we left the EU, which was my point.

Perhaps. It’s certainly uncomfortable for us passionate remainers to see the EU acting like this and I do accept that the Brexit debate became equally tribal on both sides. I just think there’s a massive difference between thinking Brexit is preposterous, and largely motivated by xenophobia and ignorance, and thinking the EU is perfect. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone eulogising about the EU on here, I’d be happy for you or J2 to point me in the direction of someone doing so.

It’s being reported here that the Irish Taoiseach (PM) gave Ursula a bell and reminded her of the importance of protecting the protocol and expressing our government’s objections to the EU’s approach. Hopefully now progress can be made to resolve the bigger issue.
