Most disappointing signing 12:18 - Feb 2 with 4024 views | BrianTablet | Which player was the most disappointing signing in terms of: ability, potential, background and cost. For me, it's Stuart Slater. I really thought he was just what we needed and that he'd be a guaranteed success with us. Who would you choose?

Most disappointing signing on 12:27 - Feb 2 with 2412 views | Steve_M | Yep, Slater was the one that stood out. So much natural ability but never achieved what he could have done. There were odd glimpses from him here but, even in a side lacking in flair, it was nowhere near enough.

I think I was lucky enough to witness the rare feat of a Stuart Slater goal for Town.

Most disappointing signing on 12:31 - Feb 2 with 2376 views | clive_baker | Lee Martin is a good shout. He was absolutely t0ss, the sort of player that probably looked half decent in kids football but really lacked any balls and physical strength for the rigours of the Championship. £1.7m was a lot of money for what we got.

Most disappointing signing on 12:31 - Feb 2 with 2378 views | SuffolkBlue11 | Bullard and Huws permanent moves after their loan spells both never really materialised into what we expected

There was a really good one against Sheffield United in the snow, good passing move with Kiwomya I think. That must have been Spring 1994, one of only three home league wins that year I think.

Most disappointing signing on 12:36 - Feb 2 with 2328 views | BlueBlood90 | Unfortunately we have too many to just pick the one! For the size of fees and the money returned back on them I'd probably say Lee Martin, Emmanuel-Thomas or Matteo Sereni. Sereni wasn't that bad but £4.5m back in that era was massive money and we never made any money back on him (didn't even get our friendly with Lazio!). As bad as Tamas Priskin was at least you can say he scored the winner in a cup semi final against Arsenal.

Some were lucky enough to see to two Slater goals against Stoke shortly following relegation in 1995.

Yep, that was the game I was at.

Most disappointing signing on 13:09 - Feb 2 with 2206 views | BlueBadger | All time for me? Ivan Campo - certainly declining in years when we signed him, but I hoped for a lot more than we got out of him. Most recently - Judge. Still waiting for him to 'tear up' the division, he's been flattering to deceive since we signed him. [Post edited 2 Feb 2021 13:22]

Not Houghton? | |

I’d have Knudsen on the other list. Not the worst but bang average would be a compliment.
Most disappointing signing on 14:12 - Feb 2 with 2002 views | Swansea_Blue | Ah, a Sam Parkin appreciation thread. There have been a lot, but in terms of expectation based on prior form/potential it's Bullard (permanent signing) and Huws for me. In more recent times anyway; I'm struggling to think of more further back. Finidi maybe, not that he didn't contribute, but he couldn't sustain the literally world class form he showed early on. Most disappointing signing on 14:15 - Feb 2 with 1980 views | Swansea_Blue | I know one who fully lived up to my expectations but a lot of people on here were excited about. Frank Nouble. Couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. He'd struggle to even find the cow. Just signed for Colchester again after ripping up L1 this season with 1 goal in 24 games.

Mental. He cost us £300k and was a perfectly decent Championship left back, coveted by the likes of Wolves and Boro during his time here.

Most disappointing signing on 14:18 - Feb 2 with 1961 views | Coastalblue | Slater for me too, I was convinced he was going to tear it up with us, Mr Lyall said what a truly special talent he was, and then...... Actually to be fair he wasn't terrible, was just another run of the mill player in reality who was great at keepie uppies. One I got weirdly excited by was Mark Burchill, the one time Scottish Michael Owen who was still fairly young but ended up being more the Scottish Neil Gregory in reality.
