What was incredible was how ordinary people, who suffered 100 times worse than anything I have were, stoical beyond belief. I suspect many were understandably repressing quite horrific expereinces tbh.
Is one reason I get so annoyed with people who wish to cut foreign aid having never seen up close the people it helps.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime..
