Phil: What is going on with club communications? 10:31 - Feb 22 with 7051 viewswkj

I find it incredibly strange that Lambert faded and let Taylor take over the press communications - but now Taylor is making way for Gill?

From a journalistic point of view - what kind of message does this send out? I can't remember many/any other times in my life where first team coaches have taken the press communications on while the manager/ass. man have still been actively employed.

...Sears was a very good signing that season.

9 goals in 23 games.

We could have done with 2-3 other signings too though.

In comparison to now Sears was a good player (in fact the best he's been for us was that half season) ...

And no doubting McCarthy's eye for a decent bargain ... but Sears was no Marcus Stewart ...

And had Colchester even asked for 250K Evans would probably have walked away.

Terry Baxter. I think they might well look to appoint someone to his sort of role in the future, in part to take the heat of Lee on non-football matters. More chance of that than a chief exec from what I'm told.

The one thing Lambert had going for him in his early tenure was his engagement with the media and fans. Without that he has nothing. How on Earth can this continue.

The exact things that have now become his biggest flaws.

Not a bad way of looking at it.

It was clear Evans didn't want to lose McCarthy, but had to listen to fans....and ironically, what did we know lol!

I thought Mick should go at the time.....all in hindsight huh? Maybe Mick would have had that one season where it all clicked againand we were right in the mix, we'll never know now.

How many times does this need saying, McCarthy's time was up. The fans were right to want change, but are not responsible for who Evans chose to put in charge next, nor his decision to continue the complete vacuum of leadership throughout the club.

We are where we are because of how poorly Evans has run the club. He continues to peddle the BCWYWF narrative to deflect from this.

We already had the league's top scorer, and Sears complimented him well.

We probably needed investment in other areas.

Happened for a long spell with Jim. Just shows where relations are between PL and the media. He doesn't particularly want to engage and when he does with some of those not actually banned will only talk about the specific game and nothing else. It's just a symptom of the general malaise the club is in at present.

But of course, the pressure doesn’t get to him. A despicable fraud. How on earth is he still in a job.

I know he has remained in close touch with people at the club, although I'm not always convinced there's a firm grasp on quite how low and how unhappy the support is. Not everyone at the club is working there day to day and we're missing the obvious indicator of the fans at games.

Having said what I said post-match re PL's mood, I still don't think the end is far off. Whatever he might have been told on Friday when they talked and even if we got a reasonable enough result at the weekend, the situation realistically isn't getting any better.

I think Lambert's chipper mood may be because he got some sort of closure from ME. yes, he's leaving but not quite yet, for whatever reason I have no idea. He certainly wouldn't have been that happy if he had been told his job was safe because you can tell the last thing he wants is to stay.

I feel ME may be kicking the can down the road. He has form on this not least the 'He's leaving but staying for now' at the end of McCarthy's tenure. I thought that was ridiculous at the time and it proved to be an absolute disaster for everyone concerned.

I hope it;s because ME is interviewing.

That's right. Seemingly professional guy, came across well, clearly experienced, and very locally savvy.

Interesting points you make.

I think the challenge again is that Terry, was part of a senior team with Sheepshanks and Bowden, with a board of local 'leaders' providing governance. A team that would direct the manager in many matters; and ultimately be responsible to manager hiring and firing. Terry I assume (guestimate) would bring the knowledge of local sentiment.

An equivalent in that role would be screaming at Marcus and the board, to resolve this situation, given the local and national outcry at current club state.

Something must have been said as his whole demeanor was completely different on Saturday than previous weeks, and I'm not putting it down to one ok performance.

I refuse to believe he isn't aware of how bad it is right now - internally and externally. I think as Phil has mentioned though, he thinks the manager being changed will be the panacea whenever he decides to do it.

When you listen to Magilton talk about his time at the club and his appointment etc, he talks about meeting the board etc.

Seems a world away when we had a proper structure and governance.

He seems more willing to talk to the BBC than other local media, presumably because they haven't actively called for his head.

That's because Brenner doesn't ask difficult questions and gives Lambert an 'out' by giving him an answer within his question, usually positive.

Brenner - "That was much better today Paul, how did you view it?"
PL - "It was much better today....."

Someone was saying to me that there's a lot of knowledge and Town background gone out of the club over the years, people immersed in the club or football more widely.

I struggle to understand how Evans can see this relationship and think it won't get anywhere but worse. It's not healthy and the relationship between Lambert and the media/fans is NEVER going to improve. Therefore, it's very destructive and damaging all round.

Can't get my head around his [ME's] game plan or thinking.

Media is part of his job. The other part of his job is managing a football club. Since he has abjectly failed on the managing bit and only bothers with the media when he feels in the mood, why exactly is he still here?
