Got my vaccine next week... 09:56 - Feb 28 with 5701 viewsitfcjoe

....no idea why i have effectively 'jumped the queue' as am mid 30s with no underlying health conditions......but excited to be getting it and feeling like we are getting closer to the end.

For anyone who has had one, do you know which one you have before you go? Or do you just find out when there - I'm not fussed which one I have but would like to do a little bit of a read up with what to expect from either

To be fair to the government, for once, they have made it very clear over and over that things will not be going back to normal for a while yet. If people are assuming that things are back to normal that’s their own outlook, not down to messaging from the government.

Did they? I'd say their hallmark is anything but clear messaging. They leak and adjust based on the kickback they get. They've talked in nothing but glib soundbites when it's suited them and given people false hope plenty of times.

I agree it's down to personal responsibility too, but in every measure our government have been a dismal failure in this pandemic haven't they?

Cheers mate. My lungs seem to be the main issue but I was ill for a long time before it. I've completely lost all my fitness due to it and having no gym to go to and train so for me, it will be a long time until I'm back.

The fact I might be an asymptomatic spreader is concerning given how despite all the efforts we've made this "schools are safe" stuff is illogical and nonsense. I'm wary we'll be a massive driver again just as things are looking up.

Altho there is data showing that asymptomatic hosts are much less likely to pass it on.

Anecdotally, my brother-in-law was positive in one of his regular tests for work, but with few, if any, symptoms. Neither my sister nor the children contracted it, despite living in the same house in the time leading up to his diagnosis.

They’ve been a dismal failure right up to the vaccine role out; I’d say that and the slow lifting of restrictions have been the most sensible moves of the way they have handled the pandemic - maybe the departure of Cummings and co has meant someone with actual care and intelligence now has Johnson’s ear instead? Goodness knows. Their messaging has been a mess but, for me, it has been much clearer on this and this alone.

Saying that, they do not appear to have used this lockdown to implement a strong track and trace system plus I do agree with you that I am concerned that schools have not been prepared for a full return, meaning we’re going to see another unnecessary uplift.

To be fair, their messaging has got a lot better in the last few months.

I wonder if some change of personnel at No. 10 might have improved things??

Ha! Hadn't read your post before I put mine.

Definitely think the resistance to Whitty et al has lost a lot of its influence.

I found out which one after it had been done.

Anecdotally, Pfizer side effects range from nothing to a mildly sore arm to (more rarely) 24 hours of feeling run down, even slightly feverish. The few people I know who've had AZ said they had nothing at all.

I was also surprised to be called as early as I was. I'm not over 65, no current underlying conditions, etc. Didn't query it, glad to get done.

Some places are going much faster than others. It has also been suggested to me that they are "filling in" if there are remaining spare doses from a particular batch which need using up.

We know of more people who've had noticeable reactions to the Pfizer than to the AZ. Most of the Pfizer reactions were rashes of varying degrees of severity, including somebody who was told to go to A&E, where they were dosed to the eyeballs with anti-histamines.

They do contact people to use up batches as you say; Mrs Factual got hers from the local surgery towards the end of their Saturday vaccination clinics. I think she got chosen mainly because we live five minutes walk from the surgery and she was in the post-65 age bracket.

Got mine next week, and I am 64. Good luck on you anyway. I got the letter from the NHS saying I could book, which I did although the centre is 20 minutes walk across BSE. Got a text from my doctor's surgery the next day inviting me for a jab! Should have waited and saved myself a walk.

Had mine last week. Was not told in advance which vaccine I was getting but from others who had been to the site I was using it seemed a certainty that it would be Pfizer, and that was the case. Having had the jab in the morning I had a sore arm the rest of that day and then a very sore arm the following day. Also had a “thick” head that day but may have been unrelated. No symptoms after that.

I had a phone call 3 weeks ago, really early and I was surprised but I went for it. Mine was at the Hospital and I asked on the phone and was told Pizer.

Bit sore and achy the next day but fine after that.

As you say gives you a little moral boast knowing that you can see the finish line here if we keep going and the great British public are sensible.

Just got a text on Friday night saying they had spaces especially at Trinity park and The Mix Stowmarket so try to use those sites if possible and then earliest could book for was this coming Saturday

It's good that many surgeries seem to be racing through their list of patients, I think it is also good that those who have had it are all talking about minor side effects for a short period of time, any potential doubters can see that it is OK and hopefully have their mind put at rest and just get it.

Just out of interest, my wife being a nurse has more of an interest in this kind of stuff had mentioned to me that when we get our call for inoculation & that won’t be anytime soon as the supply to us here in Madeira is very slow, but importantly alcohol & over the counter pain killers not necessarily at the same time, both pre & post “jab” can have a negative on the drugs ability to work going forward.

Not sure if anyone’s seen this elsewhere & can clarify?

A mate who I used to work with is a fitness instructor, he had a bad dose of covid infection, every 4 - 6 weeks he has a set back in his recovery and has to start all over again. He caught covid Feb or March last year. He is really struggling with breathing still, he is in low 50's and was extremely fit as you can imagine.

A doctor on R4 yesterday was asked about a supposed recommendation that you don’t drink for 14 days after the jab. He said it was complete rubbish. Said it might be wise not to drink on the day but other than that, no problems.

As I mentioned on Twitter I had mine last week, similarly was a bit surprised but I put it down to having a (minor) hospital appointment. I effectively had a choice of Pfizer or AZ by venue, had the Pfizer one - fine except for a sore arm and feeling more tired than usual for a couple of days.

Nice one! I think you just get what you are given. It was that way with the misses. She had the AZ one and felt under par the following day but fine after that. My mate and my brother in law both had AZ in the last week and were perfectly fine. It’s a bit luck of the draw but either way nothing to worry about.

I noticed in trials of one of them, I think Pfizer, 12% of people who were given the placebo and not the vaccine claimed they’d had side effects. Amazing what the mind does or what you blame possibly other problems on!

Good luck with it.

Worried if I will be one that slips through the net. I have not been commenting on here for a week as hit rock bottom last week and Wednesday it all came to a head that would have resulted in me no longer being around.

I have been in a downward spiral since the Government did a U-turn on asthma sufferers - we were always told we were Priority 6, if we had controlled asthma. Also have an annual flu jab, so to be moved totally out of any priority hit me hard. Why are we good enough for a flu jab (as catching that could be fatal), but not enough to be vaccinated against a more dangerous virus?

I now have to wait until the 40-49 group are announced. I just hope it's not too long as things are getting beyond breaking point.

Time will soon pass. The next group are due to be contacted next week and subject to supply, vaccinations ramped up in March. Your turn will be here before you know it.

Thanks. I hope so too. My husband is in the same age range despite being 7 years younger than me, and has no health problems. We both have different surgeries too.

Well yes, there is a lot of conflicting evidence and changes. I appreciate that.

Certainly the Mrs had it milder than I, the kids were fine which is lucky as the baby had enough going on with. It also makes me convinced I got it in school as I went down Friday night and was in Monday all day. Chances of it being on a rogue amazon delivery seem much slimmer.

To answer you both on the messaging. I think even if the change is demonstrable the change in behaviours link more to the year of damage Cummings and Johnson did.

Have you asked your GP about the timescale with regard to your asthma? I think the rollout is a bit lumpy so they may be able to fit you in earlier.

You’ve got through the rest of the year, the next couple of months will be hard work but you can get through that too.

The NHS Scotland leaflet that came with my vaccination even recommended paracetamol if you were feeling the after effects.

Wife and I were jabbed last Wednesday.

Wife had a sore arm for 3 days and spent most of the next day in bed which is really unusual for her.

I had gout like sensation in left knee for 24 hours and regurgitated my coffee next morning and haven't been able to bring myself drinking it since.

Do you remember the good old days pre- Covid when you actually had to have symptoms to be diagnosed with a disease? Back then you also had to have symptoms to be considered infectious to others. I miss those days....
