We wont ever lose the tractorboys name now, if we decide to ditch it then other clubs fans will continue to call it us in an effort to get at us but if we stick with it that wont happen. I like it anyway, its become a part of our club now. We refer to the womens team as the tractorgirls, i use the name in my user name on here, i think its really a debate not worth having!

Interesting that it's tipped in favour of the name now. Didn't realise such a huge fans disliked it, but most of my fan mates are of a similar age to me.
I like it, it's an identity, sets us apart, 'blues' is too generic for me.

After the 2000/01 season, EADT published a magazine (Against All Odds?) which had write ups for all of our games that season. I believe that the headline for our win against Leeds was 'Three Points and a New Nickname'. I may be remembering this wrong, and there's a chance the nickname had been around a bit before that. I'll try and find my copy.
When it started it was an identity thing by the media, playing on way most of the country see us as a bit rural and slow. I always felt it was promoted as an identity to set us against the supposed city slickers and pocked fun at them in a friendly way that they were getting beaten by the yokels from the countryside.
So I don’t really like it and would love it to change, unless we’re really going to own it an play up to it as Ipswich, the plucky underdogs - a bit like a lot of people saw Bournemouth a few years ago, and Leicester as well.

Should it not have progressed into the Tractor People by now?
In my tractor Yes, I can plough the seven fields In my tractor Yes, I can improve all those crop yields In my tractor Come on people, let's all follow Town In my tractor, in my tractor Can't you see our plan is sound?
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

Sorry but I'm gonna have to lay this down and put it to bed.
It started when we were playing Birmingham and they scored, they suddenly started singing - No noise from The Tractor Boys
When we went 2 - 1 up it was sang back in jest - 2 - 1 to The Tractor Boys
And then Sky picked up on it and the rest is a miserable continuation.
I absolutely hate it, it makes us out to be a bunch of yokels.
Tractor Boy = face painted, blue and white wig wearing, anti northern bypass protesting sh1t for brains
You're right on the start of it, but I don't mind it. I've always seen it as self deprecating humour, maybe I'm giving our fans too much credit here but I've always felt it was taking the yokel thing and turning it back on people.
and it gave us the Finidi song, I loved that.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
Don’t see how it can be ditched when it’s the outside media and third parties that tend to use it. We may not like it but it won’t stop others using it
I don't think it can be dropped and nor would I want it to be. As many others have said, the alternative is being known as the 'Blues' which lacks character.
Fundamentally it doesn't matter but I actually like it as a nickname, it's unique and I would miss it if it went away.

I was at Forest in the late 70s when they sang at us this ditty: I can't read, i can't write, but I come down from Ipswich Town and I can drive a tractor... ... it took us about a minute to sing it back this taking the sting out of it.... it's a nickname that makes us unique, self deprecating, and just not bothered.... ... so I think we've been seen as Tractor Boys for a lot longer than anyone realised.
