Presumably rather well connected via his current business.

Don't know anything about him (Bar his short time here as a youth) so I'd probably one of the last to offer thoughts.

But, it gives Phil a few headlines to work with...

I remember his name but don’t recall seeing him play. It’s good that he has a club connection, but the only thing that matters is whether or not he can do the job. We certainly need a better scouting network and will have to pay for it accordingly - assuming the money is really there. If this is going to happen, it’s surely got to yield better results than scraping round the dregs as we’ve done for so many years now.

Mind you, I’ll miss speculating how anyone sober thought Giles Coke could play football beyond non league level and wondering if dear old Frank Nouble would be able to work out which way we were kicking second half.

Barron to solve barren scoring run

Well if he could do that in the short term, that would be great!

I used to go to school with him and was on his table in Maths. Back then he was a very nice person, was good at maths and was level headed. His Dad used to be a teacher at the school too, but I was never taught by him.

I know nothing about him professionally.

Our scouting network is rather barren.

I saw Barron play a couple of times under Joe Royle, thought he was a decent left back. Pretty sure he played in that away win at Southampton when Alan Lee made his debut. Was a bit surprised when we let him go, and he went on to have a decent career at Millwall. A Millwall supporting friend always spoke highly of him.

Know absolutely nothing about his recruitment skills (other than what’s in the article), but it all sounds like a positive move towards some proper infrastructure. This is presumably the ‘recruitment room’ style set up that’s been referred to previously.

Will Cook like it? Possibly not, but suspect he’ll have to wear it. Which I think is right - if we’re going to be spending serious money it needs to be spent well, and I think this can only help.

Is there any link between this company and Ashton

One of the BC supporter gripes was that Ashton hired his friends companies (maybe brother in law.. cant remember) to oversee recruitment and saw it as another way of making himself and his friends more money 4rather than being beneficial to the club

Scott Barron? Blimey, there's a name from the past. I still think of him as about 18, but presumably he's all grown up now.

As things stand at the moment, he can hire his mother in law for all I care, as long as it works.

I rated him.

Wasn't he one of the 'holiday 5' or whatever they were called, who supposedly took unauthorised absence, p**sed off Jim and were bombed out?

May well have been - he was released by Magilton (according to Wikipedia), and I seem to remember Jim going postal about that.

Plus also remember Jim getting Dan Harding in very early doors, so guess he didn’t like the cut of Barron’s jib.

I assume they mean Tactical Change, of which Ashton is chairman. It's described thus: "International sports management company specialising in football management; particularly the business of football. Providing cutting edge solutions to the football industry, from player trading and recruitment to innovative commercial models that drive revenues and profitability."

Don't think there's any formal relationship between that and Scott B's agency. However, it's my understanding he is the new ownership's appointment, although Lee O'Neill will know him well.

I thought he was ok, from what I can remember. We had a pretty decent batch of youngsters come through who I thought would all do well. But not that many of them went on to anything better after leaving us.

Supple, Westy, Matt Richards, Dean Macdonald, Aidan Collins, Garvan, Billy Clarke, Gerard Nash. I think they all came through the youth together (or very close).

Yes, they did, and hopes were high at the time - a bit like they were for the current batch. But only Garvan really went on to have a top level career (I guess Downes may end up being the Garvan of the current lot).

Interesting. Seems like he’s got the right ideas - statistical analysis combined with the kind of old fashioned scouting that will possibly appeal more to Cook.

Sounds good to me.

It looks as though Refuel Performance Management already has some players attached, from MLS, Championship and League One. I notice a big majority of these are goalkeepers, presumably helped by Richard Lee.

Looks a good appointment, Barron will clearly be well connected and it looks like we are finally implementing a proper structure at the club.

Harlee Dean is on their books, I’d most certainly take players of that calibre in League One. The Northampton right-back who scored two against us midweek is also on their books.

Although Richards made 450 appearances in the EFL and 150 for us so, while it's not top level, it's a worthwhile pro career. We hope for more from the likes of Woolfie, Andre, Downes, El Miz etc, but if they all manage that sort of career it would be a good return for the academy in football terms, if not in ITFC investment.
