Apart from any of the other scandals, if Boris really said 08:54 - Apr 27 with 14460 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

he'd "rather let the bodies pile high than have another lockdown" then surely he must resign?

I know he's got away with saying all sorts of disgusting things in the past, but with more than 127,000 deaths within 28 days of a positive test, and nearly 151,000 with Covid-19 on the death certificate, surely this is the final straw?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I’ll be voting Tory mate. I think you get a second vote in the London mayoral election, not sure what I’m doing with that yet.

Can I persuade you to vote for the Socialist and Trade Unionist Coalition as your second preference?

Re the bodies piling up comment. I’m pleased that all options were discussed. Letting the virus burn itself out was an option. It was discussed and not selected, I don’t see the issue.
Re the flat redecoration, I’m far more interested in how we will repay the billions and billions worth of debt we have incurred rather than where a few thousand for a new kitchen came from.

I didn't mean to trivialise the impact of those words on people who have lost loved ones. I just think that his actual actions (or lack of) that contributed to these deaths are more important than his tantrums and the stupid things he says. Absolutely it's a sickening thing to say and reflects his attitude to the whole farce. But if he hadn't dealt with it so badly we wouldn't even need to have this discussion.

I just find it strange that there is more of an outrage when he talks about bodies than when his failure of leadership actually results in unnecessary deaths.

The thing is, his failure of leadership can be explained away (tough, unprecedented times, following the science whilst realising the need to not destroy the economy, other countries faring much worse).

These words can't be explained away, as far as I can see at the moment.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Most of the press is broadly pro-Tory. I think they feel they can run with this as ultimately it'll be dismissed as 'just words' but it serves to fire a shot across Johnson's bow. If they went in as hard on the incompetence shown during the pandemic, that might be harder for their readership to just shrug off and they might struggle to maintain the 'he's doing his best' narrative when their daily propaganda sheet is telling them otherwise. They want to keep Johnson on his toes, they don't want to actually damage him.

This more obvious sign of his callousness is harder to shrug off I suppose. Anyone paying critical attention would know he doesn't care by the way he still refuses to engage with the relatives of the diseased health workers. But if it take this for the scales to fall from people's eyes, so be it.

At the end of the day I'll be happy for whatever it takes for people to see him for what he really is. Not that there haven't been enough warnings from his previous actions, colleagues, etc.

I’m not trolling.
They looked at all the options and chose the option that would save the most lives. They didn’t do the ‘bodies piling up option’. They would have discussed the full range of responses. This particular one was not selected. The option to save the most lives possible was selected. I just don’t get all the outrage. The government have done all they can to save the most lives possible.

For what it's worth, I don't see this changing anything. The people calling it out on here were already able to see what kind of man Johnson is. You'll see from usm and Paz's contributions that they've already found ways to justify it to themselves. Those who follow Johnson follow him blindly.

You don't see the issue with the PM saying "I'd rather let the bodies pile high than have another lockdown"?!?

How on earth can you blithely describe that as "discussing the options"?

Did they bollox

- They delayed acting last March, which has been independently attributed to an estimated 20,000 extra deaths
- They delayed lockdown in September and december too, despite obvious warning and calls for this from the medical profession - leading to another estimated extra 20-30,000 deaths
- They delayed closing schools, despite clear evidence of their role is spreading the virus and even threatened to sue schools who were taking measures to protect their staff.
- They repeatedly botched the reopening of schools (they even had to be embarrassed into supporting the poorest kids by a young footballer)
- They ignored local NHS expertise in track and trace, causing the to suspend tracing as soon as it started in March 20. And it never really recovered through the summer of last year.
- They resisted calls to implement border controls and a proper quarantine programme
