If Norwood is here next season... 12:26 - May 2 with 3975 views | tractorboy1978 | Works hard over the summer and comes back in better shape, are people willing to give him a clean slate? The bile on here/Twitter is ridiculous. And some of it comes from people that claim to be mental health advocates.

If Norwood is here next season... on 13:11 - May 2 by Keaneish | He spoke to three or four Championship clubs before joining us two seasons ago. Would they come in for him now after his injuries? Maybe, maybe not. Would someone else take him off our hands? Yes, most definitely. Is he staying? Yes, without doubt. Good post match interview with him for you to read. Enjoy. |
Let me rephrase that: nobody will take him on the wages we're paying him and/or be willing to pay a fee for him, so we will have to way up whether we want to spend a decent wedge paying up his contract.

If any Club wants to pay say £2m then fine otherwise I hope he'll have some better partners that he's had in last 12 months. So many have had very poor records (Drinan Parrot Hawkins) so its easy to see why so few chances come his way! On top of that he isn't suited to loan striker role but who knows what Cook is planning to secure a 20+ striker in the break.

If Norwood is here next season... on 13:43 - May 2 by chrismakin | With complete respect, why does mental health pop up in these posts they are discussing him based on his off the field antics... quite simply, don't bait the fans, work hard, play hard, score goals. No one will talk about him negatively. It's that simple. The problem is, with his off field actions, it's hard to picture him as a positive influence around the ground, in training etc. We could be wrong, but his antics don't paint a positive picture. For the club to be successful we need a winning and together squad, if there are any players not onboard with that and cause any kind of negative influence, then we can't have them. Cuts both ways doesn't it. You only have to look at the indignation on Twitter because he dared to go out for a meal the other night. There was absolutely zero baiting of the fans involved in that. And mental health? You've got absolutely no idea how he feels about the abuse he takes, even if he does put on a front. He needs to knuckle down and realise next season is do or die for him, no question. But the fans need to be willing to give him a clean slate. [Post edited 3 May 2021 7:31]

If Norwood is here next season... on 07:36 - May 3 with 1572 views | IPS_wich | I'm torn. On the one hand, the black face and social media antics demonstrate he is a complete and utter cockwomble. On the other hand, since when did judging a players fitness to wear the shirt necessitate them having to clear some group think moral highbar. I'm pretty certain if we had got to know the intimate details of each of our 1981 team - what they thought, what their political view of the world is - then we'd probably find ourselves having similar objections to come (Brazil for example has proven himself a bit of c0ck in the past). My biggest concern about Norwood is his attitude to being a professional footballer. He clearly came back to the club after the off season having scoffed down a few too many beers and pies - and in modern 'elite' sport that just smacks of someone who's not taking it seriously. If he puts his head down, trains hard and commits to the team then I think he's an asset - regardless of his off field nonsense, and assuming it stays on the right side of the law.
If Norwood is here next season... on 08:35 - May 3 with 1555 views | pennblue | It p*sses me off no end. It has gone way too far now. Seems like any manager or player that steps into the club gets hammered. You talk about Evan's and the clubs demise, our supporter base is not helping at all imo and the mentality needs to shift to be far more supporting from next season. As supporters of course we are going to critique, but when we are trying to nail our best players it gets beyond ridiculous.

If Norwood is here next season... on 08:45 - May 3 with 1548 views | itfcjoe | Think if he keeps head down and comes back sharp then he could be massive for us. He’s not reliable enough for Cook to hang his hat on though, so we’ll be bringing in at least 1 serious quality striker to compete with him - but if Norwood comes back fit who would back against him to see off that competition? He’s got a big opportunity here now, up to him of penny has dropped

Regarding that meal. I'm afraid there was baiting. The original picture of them out was already over twitter by cruncher. About 40 minutes after this, norwood posted his own picture knowing full well crunchers had already caused a rather bizarre uproar. Going out was absolutely fine. He didnt need to do the tweet. He publically admitted a few weeks ago he put tweets out to bait.. that needs to stop. I appreciate hes just doing what people do to him..but you've got idiots all over twitter. As the footballer he needs to be the bigger person and restrain himself or come off it.

No, we will take him off penalties, create 30 chances for him and allow him to create the other 50 chances he needs for himself. Have you watched his movement and positioning in comparison to our other attacking players? He could do with improving his finishing but he is the best striker we have and plenty good enough for us at this level.

If Norwood is here next season... on 12:34 - May 3 with 1456 views | El_Fenix | I see several factors at play. 1. His relationship with the manager. This will almost certainly be far, far better with Paul Cook than it was with Paul Lambert. 2. His awareness that his career clock is ticking. At age 30, unfit and unmotivated, his career would be almost over. At age 30, fit, firing and motivated, he could be the main man (the '1' in Paul Cook's 4-2-3-1) for three seasons during a run to the premiership. In that case he would become a revered Ipswich icon ... 3. The evolution of the rest of the team. Cook's 2-3 units, plus KVY and Kenlock, will be far more incisive and dynamic than Lambert's tippy-tappy mid-fields. Significantly improved service is likely to be another huge motivator for Norwood. 4. His reaction to greater responsibility. The squad needs leaders. Would he be energized by having success in this area, or panicked at the prospect of people expecting/requiring consistently mature behavior? Early indications are very promising ... In my opinion, the stars are aligned for James Norwood to be a huge contributor to ITFC during the new era that starts on May 10th, 2021. As far as I am concerned, his slate is wiped clean on that day.
| ITFC shall rise like a phoenix from the ashes of its long decline! |

How is that baiting? It was posting a picture of mates/colleagues out for a meal. In fact I suspect the reason for posting it was because some snidey berk on Twitter was trying to make out it was some illicit trip and they were doing something wrong. I'll let off the kids but there seems to be a lot of sad men and women in their 30s and 40s that take massive issue with anything our players do. They need to grow up. [Post edited 3 May 2021 13:39]

Twitter is full of them. Its not isolated to town And it was clear baiting very cleverly done and had the effect he wanted from it. Such a simple tweet to do. All he needs to do is keep off it. It's quite simple which the majority of footballers do.

If Norwood is here next season... on 15:41 - May 3 with 1377 views | Kropotkin123 | I don't buy the "bile on here" comment and linking people's criticism on here to his mental strength is a big stretch. There is an important distinction between here and twitter. People on here are not in direct communication with the player in question. People come here to voice their opinion on Ipswich and that includes the playing staff. They are allowed to be negative. They are not trolling the player directly, merely expressing their opinion. Twitter is an entirely different beast and I don't think it is wise to conflate the two. Many of us, including myself, don't even use Twitter. Would I give him a clean slate? I'm not going to abandon the knowledge I have regarding him, as that would be unwise. But if he is here next season, I will support him and the club until he gives me reason not to.

If Norwood is here next season... on 16:45 - May 3 with 1350 views | Bluespeed225 | This is one of the saddest things about this era. No one knew The Amsterdam 6( or however any)had been away, when Mariner was in the wet dock with Ian Gillan, and the goings on in the 70’s (right before the cup final in one case), but now any idiot can put anything out there and it’s a moral outrage. Young men go out and are dopey shocker.

If Norwood is here next season... on 17:49 - May 2 by Dubtractor | Clean slate from me if he is still here, albeit he is obviously a bit of a bell. That said, the banter and seeming lack of professionalism I can ignore for the most part if he stays fit and performs, which he mostly hasn't this season, but the drink driving thing does bother me much more. |
If he was drink driving whilst a player of ITFC, that would be it for me. Don't care if he scores 20 goals, that isn't a little woopsy. He gets paid more than enough to afford a fecking taxi.

Problem is with the amount of money involved in football and how hard life has become or the normal person there is a lot of hate for footballers having a a personal life. Its no different to all of us. But when things arent going well for the club people then expect 24 hour a day training. Obv that's not realistic but that's the sort of mindset about it all. It's just an unfortunate gap between society and football. You've got people working 50 hour weeks to earn a small % of what people like Norwood earn in a day. That's not how feel I make that clear. But that's how I see the social media side of things has changed over the years.

Quite, it's clearly a big issue for many people, but the OP, and a few other repetitive threads on this, keep ignoring that, and instead continue to push the relatively insignificant Twitter line, banging on about some photos of players eating dinner. Which most normal people couldn't give a stuff about. [Post edited 3 May 2021 17:10]
