46 over here, and the only one I genuinely have no idea who he plays for isJohnstone the third choice keeper.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I don’t think I can be classed as “old”.... yet, but not far off.

I’m a huge football fan, both my kids play, I coach both their teams and am employed by the FA, so it’s literally my life.

I do know all the England players and who they play for, but equally kinda get why some don’t, as the modern game is a bit of a mess in some ways.

Yet I also find it odd that a football fan doesn’t follow their national team and take more of an interest in football generally, unless you’re purely an Ipswich fan and that’s it, but I’d have thought most of you would call yourselves football fans.

The game has changed, but not totally for the worst, maybe give it a try, watch a random Prem game or go to your local non league game or even, watch England play tonight.... you might be surprised!

RIP Sir Bobby

And Calvert and Lewin? One plays for Hawkwind and the other for Arsenal's medical staff?

Nearly! But the second one actually makes the teams shirts.

I'm an older person who watches a few matches a week on Sky/BT and an occasional MOTD...I'd say I like my football but not obsessively. I know who all the England players are so it amazes me that anyone who professes to enjoy the game doesn't...it does now begin to explain the quality of some of the football discussion on here though.

It's fair enough not to have heard of all of the 12 year olds who play for Dortmund, but Henderson, Sterling and Walker have each played more than 50 times for England!

Does Walker still play for Forest?

I know all the players who have played regularly or occasionally for England and the positions they play, but have no idea what clubs some of them play for.

Obviously I don't follow the Premier League. Lack of interest for some people may be due to the small number of players available for UK countries who actually play regularly in that league.

If anyone dares to say that I am not old they will be hearing from my solicitors. What do you mean 'Late 70s isn't old'? Last birthday I was Trombones, this one just gone I'm Sunset Strip. You may need to be nearly as old to know what I'm talking about.

Well if you peg out before your next birthday I guess you will be spinning in your grave like one of the original vinyl discs should there be further accusations that you were a youngster...

I dont know who half the England players play for nowadays. I dont follow the Prem, I look out for Ipswich but we are so far away from the Prem I neither know nor care about those teams. Havent watched Match of the Day in years, havent got sky or bt, so really dont care who they play for.

It's a strange thing. Back in the 70s and 80s, the cup final was pretty much the only live game we saw on tv, yet every football supporter could name all the top flight players and who they played for. MOTD, Football Focus and Panini stickers is where we gained our knowledge back then. Football really was more important than anything else in life.

Only just turned sixty six and I have to admit to some difficulty with this Trent Alexander Arnold controversy. I have no idea who one of them plays for let alone all three...

But mostly because PL teams have large squads where the turnover is far higher than ever it once was - you would have to be at a trainspotting level of obsession to want to keep up.

It would be interesting to see how many players moved in or out of each First divisio club in the summer of '81, compared to how many in the PL this summer.

This is actually just a thing about people getting older - people of your equivalent age in the 70s can tell you everything about todays players and where they play from

That's true Harry. Whilst I do pretty much know the England squad well, I wouldn't say I know all the PL players like I did years ago. There's a huge turn over and players coming in and out from abroad.

Although a season or two ago Ipswich supporters generally knew one more member of the Everton squad than the manager did.

He's someone we should have pursued when he became available at league one level.
