It's all that modern pop music too, well I call it music but it sounds an awful din to me, young man.

Another thing old people say (apparently) is things like "You'll be saying these things one day yourself."

I can confirm there's some truth in that.

Because we don't. Most of us have given up on modern football, because it isn't a patch on football back in our day. And besides, as an Ipswich fan I have no interest in the teams most of these players play for - assuming they play in the Premier League.

That is very true, jeera me old fruit. And FWIW I don't think much decent music has been made since 1995. Bloody kids.

Football in any era has it’s good and bad points.

Football back in the 70s and 80s has a reputation amongst younger people as being kick-and-rush, full of leg breaking donkeys, played on mud and watched by Neanderthals in giant urinals.

Modern football is seen as being powder puff and soulless and watched by plastic fans on Sky Sports.

The truth is that football fans are basically the same - both full of tribal hypocrisy and both unwilling to look for the good in things they aren’t really aware of.

Please confirm the point at which your definition of’old’ starts?

I’m 54 in a couple of days and struggled - I think my indifference towards modern footballers in light of the fact that international football is a world away from a mid table 3rd division team was a greater factor than my age.

I’m only 58 and have no idea who half of them are so I’m not sure how and old person would get on.

I'm ancient and I know who they play for. There's the goalie, Henderson, he plays for Liverpool I'm sure. And Kevin Phillips, he's a West Brom player - a bit old now I would've thought but I'm sure Big Sam knows what he's doing. The rest of them play for Man Utd or West Ham.

And that Rice guy - the BBC has him in midfield but isn’t he another right back. Is he still at Arsenal?

Because many football fans can't be arsed to try to keep abreast of an ever changing 25 man squad of Carlos Kickaballs in PL clubs.

Previously, players became well known and were with the same club year in year out.....and took somewhile to reach international level.

The Town teams of the 70's were much the same season to season ..... roughly the same 11 or so, as were the rest.

It's much like Eurovision Song Contest where I suspect, even those not deemed old barely know the various plots of land that now call themselves contries - or can be bothered to find out who they are either

I honestly do not know who they are outside of Kane and Rashford.

It pains me to say that. Since 82 I’ve loved following England in every major tournament but this time around I just have no idea who they are.

I don’t watch any football outside of Ipswich, can’t think of anything more boring.

Indeed. Not only do I have no idea who they play for but I don't even know who is in the squad. And I am under 70 so definitely not just those old people.

To counterbalance that, I'm in my 70s & had a good idea who 18 of the 26 played for just prior to the announcement of the England squad for the upcoming Euros (tbh, many of those down to having listened to the Champs Lge final on R5l a few days ago!)

Only just turned sixty six and I have to admit to some difficulty with this Trent Alexander Arnold controversy. I have no idea who one of them plays for let alone all three...

Well the first named plays for Notts County, the second Crewe but I could've sworn that last one is Dutch.

And Calvert and Lewin? One plays for Hawkwind and the other for Arsenal's medical staff?

It's fair enough not to have heard of all of the 12 year olds who play for Dortmund, but Henderson, Sterling and Walker have each played more than 50 times for England!
