Draining the swamp on 19:55 - Jun 2 by SpruceMoose | Now you've got me worried that I'M one of the morons! Yesterday I didn't even know what a moron be, now I are one |
I am measured on the omadhaun scale, so not sure how that converts to the moron scale. I am sure Dinsy will be along to list out who he thinks is a moron shortly.

Draining the swamp on 16:29 - Jun 2 by SpruceMoose | I'm just spit balling here, so forgive me if it comes across as me trying to defend bigotry (I'm really not), or attacking the good people of Suffolk (again, I'm really not) but I often think back on my upbringing in Suffolk and compare and contrast to my experiences since moving to a more diverse place. It's easy to ignore racism, or at least convince yourself that it isn't really a big deal anymore, in a place where 90% of the population identify as White British. Unless you're in a field of work that brings you into contact with minorities, you really can go day to day mainly interacting with people who look like you, sound like you, eat the same food as you, have the same cultural beliefs as you. That's not anyone's fault, you live where you live and you see who you see, but it really can deny people the opportunity to hear about or witness the experiences of people who negotiate the world in a vastly different way to you. We all have things in common, but there's also some major differences that you never think about unless you actively make the effort. It's not difficult to imagine how under these circumstances, when confronted with BLM protests or football players kneeling on the TV, the initial reaction is to roll your eyes and to think it's all a load of fuss about nothing. It's remote. It's not a 'me' problem, an it's not even a 'we' problem, it's a 'them' problem. When I moved here I quickly came to realise that I brought all kinds of biases and assumptions with me about groups of people, based on what society and culture told me rather than my own direct experiences with them. So often, in our culture, Black stories are told by white voices, and that is inherently inauthentic. That was a difficult thing to admit to myself about myself, and its something I still carry with me every day. It's an ongoing process to always be aware of what you unwittingly expect other people to be like. I now live somewhere that I have to confront it every time I step out of my front door though. I can't ignore it, when the vast majority of my friends and neighbours aren't White Anglo Saxon in heritage. I honestly can say that if I'd stayed living in rural Suffolk that probably wouldn't be the case. I'd have still been dead against racism and racists, but I don't know if I would have ever had to so closely examine my own biases. [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 19:54]

An extremely pertinent post Mr Moose How can we ever know how the "other" person feels?? Can we ever understand how the outsider feels about the jibes and taunts from the in-crowd?? The very least we can do do is give some benefit-of-doubt And try to be welcoming and understanding

I suffered from pretty bad homophobic abuse when I was a teen even though I wasn't even gay. Being a bit more clever, arty and creative and a bit camp with long hair was enough to make me a target. My surname begins with B and it was a Bender B***** or Backs To The Wall B****** for a couple of years at school, thank god for 6th form when all the idiots had gone.

Fair point, eloquently put. However, my default position now is to say f**k ‘em, mock ‘em & marginalise ‘em. I know enough of them, and any form of sympathy or attempt to understand their viewpoint merely acts as encouragement.

Still in the kitchen, running it at the moment. Not that I really want to be, I hate the job even though I'm really ***king good at it. Literally doing what 2 of us were doing pre-covid. [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 21:04]

Have to be careful though. one bloke came up to me and asked if I was a f*ggot. I put on a camp voice and said "why do you want to know, are you thinking of asking me out" and I got my face smashed in

Ah shame, thought you'd gone to work for a relative's firm instead? Or was that all put back due to covid? Hope you can get out of there anyway once we're back to the new normal - whenever and whatever that is. And obviously sorry to hear about your abuse as a young'un. I had hair down to my arse during my metal years and nothing like that really happened, bar a few funny incidents when people would tap me on the shoulder and say 'Excuse me, miss'!

I think I may have got the wrong end of the stick. If you think a post/er is racist, subliminal or not, call them out directly. It is worth challenging people. For instance I am sure Naze will be back tomorrow and will only be too happy to be specific with his thoughts, and respond to non-abusive questions.

So the theory is, that whoever you vote for means you have the same tendencies as that person....mmmmm Or to be precise; if I say Ollie Robinson has had a good start to the test match, that makes me a racist and a sexist.

That comparison makes zero sense. But you knew that already. It's not a very good troll account, quite boring really. Kudos though on creating a somewhat believable persona.

Footers, admin have all my contact details, ITFC customer number etc if they believe I am a troll (still not sure what one is). I can not think of one poster on here who voted Tory at the last general election and or for Brexit who has not been accused of 'Trolling' once their voting decisions are known. I will try and defend my position and answer to anyone (when of course I am online and see it - which is not as often as you guys admittedly) who tries to ridicule unnecessarily my or others decisions. There are many on here who think opposite to me that can maintain dignity, respect and humility at the same time. I feel we should all aim for that. Oh and my comparison made perfect sense...
