It’s been a good week for ITFC 20:06 - Jun 4 with 4318 viewsSteve_M

Ashton starting, two good signings, kit released, Ed Sheeran giving it global attention and a promotion.

A long way to go before the start of the season, even longer before we will have achieved anything but it’s a nice start.

All this positivity is novel and strange I’m waiting for ITFC to kick me hard in the nadgers now. Gone are the days of waiting until last weekend of the transfer window to do anything and only get in loans that add nothing.

Like to see us start moving a few out now.

theres no doubt that Ashton will make some calls during his time here that'll shock/piss off a few, but from what he's saying (so far) I trust that he's steering us in the right direction.
CEO's make big calls, its what they are paid to do.

few more first team starters through the door, mix them in with what we already have, bulk out squad with young academy boys, i'll be more than chuffed with that going into the new season

See the similarities? It has been a good week but it was a good week in past and we got blinded by it. We should be happy at the signings but no point going over board. Make PC earn it and then love him when he does

Not really, the entire club has changed from that time, proper owners and a structure built behind the scenes.
One man coming in a talking bo11ocks compared to this, well they don't compare do they.

this week hasn't really even been about PC, and not seen him talk too much. More so the CEO arriving, and the managers targets brought in.

as far as i'm concerned they've all earnt credit this week, and long may it continue.

It.does have shades of Hurst and Doig coming in though and sweeping old the old and splashing on the new.

We are going to piss the league though

On the playing staff management side of it I thought Cook did well making very early calls on players and their contracts to help set the foundations for some of this positivity. We were weeks ahead of some clubs with our retained / released lists which has helped nurture some productive recruitment conversation.

I'd say tho. Evans and Burns are different first signings than what Hurst gave us. both players are experienced at the level we are playing at for starters.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Possibly just hope playing tricks with me, but I sense a rapidly growing ‘cohesion’ about the club. Interesting that KD alluded PL was never available, Evans liked to save money and Mick was really only interested in the first team. Add Chambers’ comments about people like Milton going leaving fewer people to do more, it’s easy to see how the club’s fallen apart. It’s been gutted.

People will come and go, but if the set up is right that won’t matter. Mark Ashton maybe the devil incarnate, as that Bristol City dude indicated, but the new appointees bring structure and form.

As for the new players, It’s clear PC values attitude as much as anything else. It’s no surprise he wants rid of most of what he’s seen in the last three months.

Yes, it’s been a very interesting, good week for ITFC.

It’s not trickery, there’s definitely more cohesion. Which really isn’t difficult considering we had an absent owner, minimal on the ground leadership and a grumpy Weegie living of past glories in charge.

We now have the structure to bind things together. Don’t underestimate the infectious enthusiasm of the new owners too. They’ve done more to galvanise the support base than Evans did in 13 years. It was about 5 years before most of us even saw a picture of Evans FFS, whereas you can’t get this lot off the various podcasts.

On a slightly sad note doubt if us older fans could ever imagine getting excited about signings from Fleetwood and Wigan. The only was up.

It really doesn’t. Hurst and Doig were appointed at the end of May. The season had gone and he had no idea what players he had - not that it mattered since Evans couldn’t get the better ones out fast enough to trouser the £££ and reduce the wages. Decent players replaced by cheap rubbish ones. Cook arrived in March and had enough time to see what he had or more importantly what he didn’t have.

Most important of all, the constant for Hurst, Lambert and their predecessors was Evans. The interviews with Chambers, Dyer, McGoldrick and others tell you all you need to know about the life draining nature of that regime.

It’s not the same now. It’s all changing. It feels like a football club is being formed as opposed to clinging on to the remnants of one. We are no longer blindly hoping a new bloke, whose highlight was one decent season with Shrewsbury, can produce a Championship team with League 1 and worse level players. It’s all good.

Light years between Hurst and Cook.

Hurst sounded like a numpty literally from the word go. A few fans called it a breath of fresh air. Delusional, and I'm not saying this with hindsight. He was very clearly completely out of his depth and proved it very quickly. The fact Evans allowed it to happen puts the blame at his door as much as if not more than Hurst and Doig.

Cook was the opposite. I don't disagree with questioning his comments about clearing the whole squad, managers are there to be analysed by fans, it's part and parcel. But he has always sounded like he knows what he's talking about. Much like McCarthy. No other manager under Evans has done so. A parade of planks.

Cook knows what he's doing. I agree he will be judged in November, or October perhaps. But Evans isn't involved in running the club any more so it's worlds apart from Lambert even if you do really think Cook and Lambert are similar... which you dont do you, you're just arguing the toss Fishers and trolling yourself. You used to be a far more effective troll you donut :)

"Parade of planks" lovely stuff!

But agreed that Cook comes across as knowing his onions and isn't just making noise to try and justify himself as Hurst and Deputy Doig did. If I were a woman I'd feel safe in his arms.

I’m hoping that the club arranges an open day before the new season. It will be great to see the place that has been my “ second home” since the late 1950’s . Lots of memories of friend that I worked with on the turnstiles for many years. Very special people.

Yes there is a buzz and vitality about things, even at this early stage. Just hope that quickly translates onto the pitch and we can get up next season, because I think it's clear things could get quite interesting if we do. More than anything I'm happy to see a can-do attitude radiating from the club. It's been a long, long time.

He did! West Ham were up against us for his signature and he was signed for £220k. A sizeable fee in those days but he had a good goal scoring record and was about 23 when he signed - a good age with plenty to come.

I’m hopeful that the bright start to each of the last two seasons shows that better players means a team will do ok without organisation or a settled way of playing; if Cook has added them then it should be more sustainable.

A nice opening month of fixtures works hello here too.
