When moving houses (only a few miles) on 08:34 - Jun 9 with 699 views | itfcjoe | I haven't needed to use moving services when I have moved as have always had long epriods to do it as was moving out of parents, and then into a house we were doing up and still had other one etc. But whenever anyone tells me about how much it is to get a removals company in, and what they do for the money, then it seems an absolute no brainer - if it is a one day move. All the packing, all the heavy stuff, everything where you want it, fully insured etc. Seems such a low margin business but also a no brainer if moving more than one of you and a full house worth of stuff

Not one thing lost or broken. No having to take furniture apart or put it back together. Once you go pack, you never go back.

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 09:29 - Jun 9 with 660 views | BlueBlueBluex2 | Pack it yourself and get professionals to do it. Days of getting your mates to do it on the promise of a four-pack and a Chinese is fine if you live in a flat, anything else and its a ballache for you and for them.

Can be a false economy trying to do it yourself IMO when you consider the van rental, fecking your back, inevitably taking longer than you think, wasting a whole weekend and still managing to damage an expensive coffee table. Really depends on how much stuff you have though. I moved about a year ago from South London to Suffolk and because I had quite a lot of furniture, I paid someone to do it for me, which was thoroughly worthwhile. I also didn't have to worry about getting any rental van back to London. Appreciate that's not a consideration for you but sometimes they properly sting you if you're taking the van back to a different location.

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 10:04 - Jun 9 with 627 views | SaleAway | When I was renting places, and didn't have too much stuff, always did it myself, with maybe a van.... when me and Mrs SA bought our first house together, and moved out of hers ( 2bed terrace to 3 bed semi), we got the professionals in.... it was pretty much a full day job for them, and we couldn't have done it any other way. its worth finding good removals people though. Ours were a local firm, relatively cheap, and hugely flexible, especially when we had a few issues with moving dates. I think it depends how long you have to move, and how much stuff you have.

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 10:11 - Jun 9 with 616 views | hype313 | It all depends on if you have Kids, moving if it's just you, or you and a partner can be done with a few mates help , few beers, pizza's and a hire of a van. If you have kids, then call Pickfords.

Sold our house in Plaistow in December but at the same time the house we were buying in Lowestoft fell through, didn’t want to lose our buyer so let them have it and moved in with the mother in law in Watford, had all our furniture and belongings taken to safesure in Ipswich, the move cost a grand, ended up staying in Watford to May when we eventually completed on our house. Hired a van from enterprise for a week for £260, Mrs got a discount by being an AA member, drove from Watford to Lowestoft on the Friday with a van full of stuff that we had bought whilst staying there, got married on the Saturday and then on Sunday drove to Yorkshire to pick up my son to help me, Monday morning drove from Yorkshire to Ipswich, filled the van up and took it to Lowestoft, over the next two days did multiple trips between Lowestoft and Ipswich, then on the Thursday took my son back to Yorkshire, took the van back to Watford on the friday ( they wanted £200 more to drop it in Lowestoft) and got the train from carpenders park to Lowestoft (5 hours trip but only £30) Altogether including diesel and the train and keeping the boy supplied with bacon rolls I spent less than £500.
When moving houses (only a few miles) on 13:58 - Jun 9 with 567 views | Kieran_Knows | When we moved in February I got a van from a mate and got my old man to help me out for the day. Saved us £600 (roughly), but boy I wish I had got a firm in to do it all. Took 3 trips (of which our buyers were getting angry), and just ended up being a hassle. Luckily, I can say at 29 that I have moved in to my last ever house, but if I was ever to do it again, I'd get a firm in!

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 14:18 - Jun 9 with 548 views | GavTWTD | I moved 5 miles just before lockdown. We hired a local removal company and it was like clockwork. We packed everything ourselves, but didn't have to worry about any of the big stuff. They also provided clothes boxes and specialist stuff for TVs. On the day, the people that were moving out chose the local man and van solution. They grossly underestimated that living in this house for 40 odd years they would have accumulated a load of stuff and it took them the whole day. The jeopardy we had was that even though we were at the end of the chain, we only had 20mins to spare otherwise the removal company said they couldn't move us on the friday, and everything would have to stay on the van until the monday. Thankfully it worked out, but it all depends on your situation. Moving is so stressful that I'd recommend a removal company personally. They know what they're doing. They know how to move sofas on stairs with corners.

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 14:24 - Jun 9 with 545 views | Dubtractor | Men with ven every time, as long as you can afford it. Just takes so much stress out of it, means you can focus on everything else.

When moving houses (only a few miles) on 19:29 - Jun 9 with 490 views | TractorWood | We have gone for removal people but we have to do a bit of packing and unpacking. They just shift it. Not the full bells and whistles. We ended up going for basically whoever was available as about 10 companies said they are busy or didn't come back to us (through being slammed). Stamp duty innit. Thanks for all your advice. Definitely made me not want to do it myself.
