Why? We were maybe offering 1 year and assume Wigan would be offered much more stability.

Edwards is unfairly targeted imo. His stats aren't that much worse than Burns?

Except Burns is a far better player!

Good luck to the lad, likely got a better deal. Wonder if Wigan of throwing a bit of money at it this summer, after taking Whatmough from Pompey as well.

No idea why we offered him a deal though, very very average. Flashes of good, but for the most part is absolutely infuriating to watch.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

No great surprise. Not many of last seasons squad will want to hang about, and frankly I don't care. There's a small handful (Dobra, Downes, KVY, Woolfy, Dozzell) that I would want to keep, if they can demonstrate they're up for the fight, but the rest can go. Even then I wouldn't lose too much sleep if we got good money for Dozzell. Flynn Downes I do really rate though, and can't help but think how good he might be in our new look squad.

Other than those few though we need to cleanse the squad as much as possible and rid it of the malaise that's firmly set in over years. A true fresh start, on and off the pitch.

Good luck to him, but he's not for me in this new look Town side.

Completely agree on all those points. The sooner we sign a CB the better as it may provide some indication as to whether Wolf is staying or not. I’m keen for Downes to stay and I’m pretty sure the others will be here bar Dozzell but no great loss at this moment in time. We may rue that in years to come though.

If we trust Cook’s judgement then this is a blow then he clearly wanted to keep him. It’s also a bit embarrassing that his former assistant has managed to get him to sign. Of course we don’t know the promises we made to him or whether we saw him as a starter or back up.

From a personal point of view I’m not that fussed; Edwards is far too inconsistent and, despite the stats being similar, there’s a reason why Fleetwood fans were disappointing he left whilst most of us are shrugging our shoulders.

I can’t help but think it would have been more useful to us if Wigan had got themselves relegated last year, though.

Good luck to Gwion for the future.

I wouldn't deem it embarrassing whatsoever. You have no idea on the terms of our contract offer. It could have been a token offer to get him on reduced terms if he had no better offers.

"I can’t help but think it would have been more useful to us if Wigan had got themselves relegated last year, though."

If they are as well-funded at the article suggests, and are also completely rebuilding, it will be interesting to see how the two squads compare come August, if the belief is that the two managers have similar ideas about what constitutes a good footballer.

Anyone with a footballing nous can see he has a potential. Cook knows that and that's why Edwards had been offered (despite having been bafflingly so poor) a new deal. Yes perhaps on the reduced terms however still an offer.

We would have finished the reason in the lower position in the table if it hadn't been for his excellent contribution from the first month of the season. Without a doubt our best player during that time and arguably one of the best in the league. Again, the potential is there and unfortunately a big inconistence.

If he can get a better life at Wigan then so be it. You don't want to be a part of our journey then goodbye I won't be the one mourning his departure given his terrible form towards the end of the season.

Cook would have adviced his mate Richardson to ignore Edwards and not to sign him if the latter didn't have an unfulfilled potential. He would have said to him that he's a terrible player if that was the case.

In theory this should cut Bluefish's posting by at least 50%, unless of course he develops an irrational hatred of another Town player.

The guy is 28. If he's not fulfilled his 'potential' by now, he never will.

Watch him tear it up there, Wigan finishes second and we end 3rd. Cambridge United squeak 6th and knock us out of the play offs.

There are stats that can prove almost anything in football.

If you use your eyes, Burns carried the ball more in 90 mins vs itfc than Gwion did in the period from Jan - May 2021.

A progressive positive player vs a one dimensional one.
