Hancock quits on 18:19 - Jun 26 by jeera | Should have been sacked and not given the chance. |
effectively he has been, people like Hancock wont ever be openly sacked in politics, but his opportunity to resign on his terms was yesterday, which he chose not to do. so this is a resignation forced through by No10, once their polling confirmed what even a blind man could see, and they no doubt had early sight of the sunday papers too, and Hancock was left with the choice of resigning now, spending some time on the back benches and allowed to return to some post in the future, or be openly sacked and never likely to be forgiven for it by the party. because nothing has materially changed with this, unless there are some more revelations they are expecting tomorrow, the situation is as it was yesterday so the only thing thats changed is theyve made Hancock realise he had no option but to go anymore.

Hancock quits on 19:37 - Jun 26 by bluelagos | Hancock. And Cummings, The guy that appointed them both to remain as teflon coated as ever. |
Yep, the only person to come out and state he had 100% in Hancock, bumbles on.

Hancock quits on 19:38 - Jun 26 by TractorWood | I think it's obvious that if there was another lockdown, Hancock would have less than zero credibility in any involvement. His job was totally untenable, as was Cummings last Summer. Fundamentally, he seems a sociopathic moron. However, he's a good example of why no one should ever feel imposter syndrome at work. |
Devil's advocate here: I'd argue that imposter syndrome in positions of serious responsibility makes for safer, better decisions than Dunning-Krueger, which Hankcock, along with the rest of his now former colleagues. As an aside, I'll give it six months before he slithers back into another ministerial position, ala Patel.

Serious questions to be answered there because this wasn't bog standard CCTV footage it was a camera planted in his office.

For some reason I just assumed that it was one of those child safety cameras, put there by a responsible person at the DoH in order to check that Master Hancock didn't manage to accidentally chop his own head off with a plastic spoon or something. On second thoughts, they probably wouldn't have fitted one.

In the end the backbench MPs were pretty thunderous in their silence not defending him, no doubt considering that Bluerinse voters tend to be pretty prudish when it comes to s.e.x.; foreseing that this will be brought up ad infinitum in the next GE, and none of them (incl Johnson) wanting to lose their jobs or power.

You forget the ever handsome David Mellor. Cecil Parkinson fathering a child after lying to the girls mother, minister Tim Yeo doing the same, likewise MP Gary Waller. Though there were numerous other male Tory MPs dalliances outside of their marriage with both male and females, none could emulate this chaps activities "Conservative MP Stephen Milligan was found dead on his kitchen table as a result of auto-erotic asphyxiation, wearing only a pair of women's stockings and suspenders, and a brown paper bag over his head, with an orange segment in his mouth " * * please be aware this is not some initiation ceremony as required before being inducted into the Tory party

Good point. The last Tory government that lost power was the John Major one and accusations of Sleaze abounded. However, I wonder if voters have moved on in the last 25 years and won't see bribery, corruption and ex-marital affairs as such a big deal. If the voters won't vote for Ed Milliband 'cos he doesn't eat a bacon sandwich the proper way, then Johnson may lose the election simply because he doesn't watch Eastenders.

It’s much more tribal now isn’t it? I’m not sure as I wasn’t paying much attention in Major’s time, but I get the feeling the gobby ‘commentators’, cosy media and their supporters would forgive Johnson pretty much anything. Weakening the influence of the UK, massive economic damage, a very poor covid response, divisive policies against foreigners, undermining our public services including the NHS during a once in a century pandemic, and no personal moral standards hasn’t affected his ratings one bit.

I think, as with Churchil and WW2, the public are more inclined to stick with a leader when it is going OK. However we have yet to see the full effects of brexit, nor the ending of furlough payments.

He'll be back as Secretary of Defence just before World War 3 knowing our luck.

Probably worth seeing given his role in this government, but I'm not going to pay much attention to what that bloke says to be honest. Javid's recent history and the state of this cabinet is enough to tell you that this isn't anything to celebrate. I don't need Dominic 'just testing my eyesight' Cummings to tell me they'll continue to be bog standard (and besides, he's exaggerating - they're not as good as bog standard).

Don't think that's the real Dominic Cummings tho is it? 🤔 No blue tick, & I thought he didn't have an account on the platform?

Hancock quits on 19:14 - Jun 26 by MerseyBlue | Pretty convenient for the government to be able to wash their hands of this. Agree with others that with so many looming loons on the right of the party, it's pretty concerning to see where we go from here. All of the Tories scare the hell out of me, they're cold and calculated reptilians with no concern for the people they represent. |
And yet, if there was a GE tomorrow.... What a mess.

I've no idea tbh. There's a link to the real DC blog in the bio, so maybe it's the real one. It doesn't really matter to me as I'd pay as much attention to Cummings as I would someone impersonating him!
