Lots to digest in there……and the clearest possible statement that online leaks on transfer targets do harm the club. It’s been interesting reading opinions on here over the last week or so, and I can certainly see the point that agents will already be alerting all clubs to player availability as a matter of course regardless of what’s in the media. Its also clear that football transfers are complicated and can be influenced by lots of things including online coverage, which provides leverage to agent. In situations where clubs are targeting multiple players for each position does this not send a message to other interested clubs that the player is very much available, such they move them up their list of targets for each position?
Heck I’m as guilty as the next person for wanting ITK posts, but perhaps I’ll just wait for the announcements now…….. |

Talks very well, comes across as a very slick operator on the business/transfer front. Clearly going to be a very important cog in the wheel for this football club moving forward.
Important to have a Plan A,B,C & D in place. As we saw with Siergest scenario, we move on and imo get a better goalkeeper in Hladký. |  |

He literally states - "Like any other football club things will leak out.". He's not naïve to it, but probably is frustrated by it.

Perhaps it’s time for this forum to facilitate a block on such posts? I don’t know, I’m only asking the question really. We all want the best players to come here , and we are all inpatient to learn who the target is and some want the glory (as Ashton states), of being the first to name that player, probably unwittingly at the most sensitive time in the negotiations?

I agree, entirely.
I get a name, very occasionally, as far away from ITK as possible. But if it benefits our club, I won't be posting anything.
I think 2 or 3 are too keen to be seen as ITK that they won't be able to help themselves. | |

Think it would be utterly pointless. Like I said above, if there's a financial incentive for it to do so then information is going to reach people.
Why would Dijon or Celina (or his agent) bite their tongue if they think another buyer with more money might come in? | |

This is the dumbest **** ever. Agents will be ringing round to everyone they know pushing their players - they get a cut of everything so are constantly trying to create multiple sources of interest to push up wages/signing on fees etc. |
Er, ok. Not sure if 'dumbest **** ever' is referring to Ashton's comments or my relaying of them, but ultimately its up to you whether you choose to accept what Ashton is saying.
Again, many comments on here can be summed up as 'agents will be doing the ringing around anyway so social media isn't alerting clubs to player availability'. Ashton makes the point that social media interventions don't kill deals, but slow them down. Anyone with experience of M&A for example will understand that 'momentum' is a key driver of deals getting done. | | | |

He has a history of wanting extremely strong command and control of all press associated with his club. He pretty much totally cut off the local Watford press from the club in his time there because he deemed that they were not sufficiency supportive. |  | | |

It's good to see him building a relationship with Watson, Warren et al. Hopefully it will be the same with Phil. It really was a great listen and it's not hard to feel positive about the direction of the club.
