Norwood banned from driving and fined £5000 on 19:58 - Jul 12 by ElderGrizzly | Normally it only looks back at 3 years previous on sentencing guidelines, so he really annoyed the judge to get 40 months. I've said before, there should be a zero limit as is the case in a lot of EU countries and some US states. It sends the message 1 drink is too many. I'm particularly sensitive on this I guess as a drink driver nearly killed my dad when I was much younger, so anything that keeps this scum off the road should be applauded. 10 year sentence for 1 ban and lifetime for 2 or more should be where we go. |
My understanding is that if you are convicted a second time within 10 years it is a minimum of a three year ban. "The minimum disqualification period will be increased to 3 years if within 10 years preceding the commission of the drink driving offence they have been convicted of any of the following offences: causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs driving or attempting to drive whilst unfit driving or attempting to drive with excess alcohol failing to provided a specimen for analysis while driving or attempting to drive"

Thanks, I must have looked at some out of date guidelines! Still not enough...

I cannot see how he is going to continue as a player unless he lives closer to PR/Playford Rd than Cockfield,or finds someone to dive him in and pick him up afterwards

This sort of vigilantism will probably upset Chico a lot.

You're probably only talking £40 each way and if he gets a local private hire who may do a deal it could work out less than that. With his income it would be worth it while he looks for somewhere closer maybe. Saying that, if he's got a nice place in Cockfield he doesn't want to part with then it would be cheaper to rent a modest pad in Ipswich for a while rather than take a daily cab.

Yes. I do. And its not remotely sanctimonious to be deeply pis sed off at someone behaving that way. Dont minimise it. There is, of course, something to note here in terms of the passage of time.

Norwood appealed his second drink drive offence, resulting in a 40 month ban, in October 2021. Why have we NEVER heard what happened to his apparently spurious appeal?

The last offence was 14 years ago. Why bring it up unless you want to cause trouble? Or have I answered my own question

What an odd thing to drag up, clearly with an agenda. Anyone who does anything dangerous when operating a car is a complete pr*ck and should not be allowed the privilege of doing so. What exactly is your point here?

As mentioned above re. the passing of time... https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2025/may/19/peter-over-named-club-ambassador/ But the point is, when can someone absolve themselves from previous failures...if it possible to do so... (Or at least that's my take on the resurrected post)

Yes, and given that Over's statements to court were as dishonest as Norwood's were then I don't think he is an appropriate person to be a club ambassador.

To be honest, I know nothing about the guy. But if (IF) he has lived life as a model citizen for the past 15 years or so, then I think a blind eye can be turned here and probably has been

I was sad at the way the club and many posters on here treated Norwood. That was the basis of my post. Again, I'm in no way condoning his illegal actions. I have no axe to grind regarding Mr Over. I am sure he is a fine fellow. And we have just learned that Brandon Williams was signed after the club knew about his indiscretions, but this time they turned a blind eye. So the company line is that Norwood is a bad boy. Over is a good boy. Williams was a good boy until the news became public. Just checking. The only people I was having a "pop at" if that's want you want to call it, is those that pilloried Norwood, but apply double standards when it suits them. Is it the case that it's not the crime that matters, but how long ago it was committed. How long until we can forgive Norwood too? Just for future reference. And that thread the other day trying to dig up past crimes to name a Town reprobate XI was OK?

I’m struggling with this a bit. What are you saying? There is no ‘company line’. In what way was Norwood treated badly? [Post edited 24 May 19:42]

I think everyone deserves a second chance/forgiveness, including Norwood. We all make mistakes. I just think it's weird to be bringing this up after so many years. I always think it's weird when people dig up posts from several years ago.

It was because of Over's recent appointment as club ambassador, and I was trying to make a point relating it to the way Norwood was treated, which of course was a while ago, so I appended it to a post from that time. I can see that I probably didn't make my point as eloquently as I'd have liked too and linking it to an older post was probably not my best move.

He had a spell out early on in his final season under Cook, but was then pretty much ever-present in the second half of that season under Kieran. Selection would have been down to the managers anyway, not the club, and Cook was pretty useless despite bringing in some decent players. So I'm not sure how you think the club treated him badly. He wasn't worth a contract renewal.

I, and I think most people probably, didn't know anything of Over's past misdemeanors. But they were 15 years ago. I'm sure we've all done something we regret/was wrong in the last 15 years. I don't know why it's relevant given that most didn't know, and it was a long time ago. Yes, time is important.
