"Of course the above Is personal view. But character is vitally important as Ashton has said and we have let 20 odd players go.. so unless we are saying all 20 are seen as just not good enough then personal character has to come into it."

What does this mean then if it isn't a slight on Character?

Again. Character has many attributes.

If you have a player who is playing at their best level. And that player is comfortable with that, there isn't a drive to be better.

That's not a slight on a person's character that's just where that player is.

For PC however as hes made very clear following each signing a want and desire to be better is very important.

That's the best way of explaining it. Its not bad to be point A but PC wants point B.

And you’ve assumed, in the post literally above this one, that Norwood has character PC may like. It’s all assumptions and 2+2 making 5 or whatever you choose it to. Joe is solid, knows people, and your constant bickering over things like this is dumb.

Joe asked a question about Norwood.

I'm surprised hes still in the picture personally. But my reply to Joe is my personal understanding of how and why he is. You dont have to agree with it.

This isnt even an argument about what joe knows so not sure why you're bringing him into it tbh.

Once again though depends on what happens behind the scenes.

Compared Downes to Crooks

Crooks. Training. Working hard. Cracking on. Manager trusts him despite crooks clearly wanting to move

Downes... manager not happy with effort because move is blocked. Etc etc. Manager covering himself to the public due to not selecting a club favourite. It's not unusual and not unexpected. Wrong? Not really.

Either way. It's all done with now. We move on and look forward to how we progress and how he progresses in his own career

How do you know Crooks clearly wants to move?

It’s utter tripe and insulting to suggest the players we’ve lost didn’t have ‘character’, the club clearly needed a fresh start and it’s getting one.

Not sure about that, the fact we bottled nearly every big game for the past 3 years and constantly crumbled under pressure would suggest quite a few players lacked character. Obviously there are other factors that play into it but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that.

Yes, fair point. I think Ipswich had got used to average, forgot how to be winners. Happy to slide along in Middle Street. Far too comfy.

Seems the club are/have targeted players who have a stronger desire to win and want to have success. Even coming here over offers from Championship clubs.

Good stuff.

The fact we're even bothering to go back with bids, otherwise we'd have been tipped off not to bother.

To be fair, some of the released were relegated in pathetic fashion, and then continued to bottle games against the 'bigger' sides in League 1 for nearly 18 months straight.

It's not the wildest suggestion makin has made, or as wild an accusation as you seem to think it is.

Have any of our signings, Evans aside acheieved much? Promotion etc?

And to some signing for a L1 club over a Chanp club would show a lack of ambition and belief in their abilities.

Just playing devils advocate, I like the vast majority of our signings a lot - but it’s easy to talk about things through a different viewpoint. I don’t see any obvious evidence that those we have signed have a ‘stronger desire to win’ than the ones we have lost - it’s just an easy thing to say

Yes, I understand your point, and you can look at it that way. But then how many of the lads we've let go achieved much? Promotion?

The may lack ambition in coming here, or, I'd suggest they are blown away by the vision the club is showing and they firmly believe we are going places. It may be my Blue tinted glasses but I'd sooner sign for Town (with this new ownership and vision) than a Peterboro', Hull, Luton etc. in the league above.

I don’t think there’s any guarantee with the players coming in but that personality trait is obviously high on Cooks list and as Ashton said, players and staff who have worked with the player are consulted during the recruitment process to get an understanding. You would hope that at least gives a good starting point.

As much as we’d like to think that as fans, players sign for the best packages on offer in the most convenient locations - careers are too short to do much else.

That package can include more likeliehhod of playing games, bigger promotion bonuses/wage rises, longer deals etc - but the only way you even get a chance to sell your vision is to be very competitive in first place on financials.

Think we’ve lucked out to an extent in getting proper money to invest in a year when clubs are in financial strife due to covid - but we are building a very exciting looking squad

A shame, will be sad to see him go - think he is the one I’d have liked most to see brought back into the fold.

All the stuff about wanting to leave for over a year is overplayed - both the club and him handled the situation badly last summer, I certainly wish him well

In all fairness, I didn't want to be stuck with us, a declining team spinning their wheels in the third division with an incompetent manager and clueless owner in charge last season either, so I don't blame him.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Norwoods character may be something PC likes. If what he says is true and hes in training early. Once of the best trainers etc it's a characteristic PC may like etc

So you know Norwood goes into training early for a fact then?

There is a vast difference between saying that they have bad character and saying that their character is not what is desired at the club. Those who have jumped on this comment clearly have not read the post correctly.

Nope. Didnt say he did. Norwood said it himself however at the end of the season.
My point was maybe that's part of the character PC likes about him.

Even tho Grealish told the public himself he did.

Interesting that’s the first time I’ve seen someone actually say Downes wants to leave.. (other than when Palace came in!) makes the inclusion in the u23s now make more sense because for me Downes in our old squad was our best player. He doesn’t want to be here so we can finally all move on from this now.
[Post edited 13 Jul 2021 7:42]

It’s been fairly obvious he has wanted to leave for two years.

Much welcomed luck, or timing, for once. We usually end up on the other side of such things.

Parachute payments, ITV Digital etc etc

Even when its confirmed that he wanted to leave

You still try to make out theres more to it and try to make out the club were in the wrong again.

It's just simply a player who would like to leave that is all there is to it. It's not a problem. We both move on

What is wrong with you?

You’re really really irritating

And we always seem to have made the worst out of any situation as well - we’ve managed to balls up any half chances we’ve had to make progress over the years! Very different to those lot up the road!

But yep, certainly not complaining that we seem to be in the right side of something at the moment and hope we can utilise this opportunity properly!

What Downes and the club did or didn’t say is history now. We are a different club and moving on. If he wants away, it’s a shame because we know what he could add to us but there it is. Let’s hope the deal is done soon.

For him, if Bournmuff it’s a good move. A real step up for him and a club that seems to develop players well, thinking of Tyrone Mings.
