This is gonna hurt the gammonista. Born in Canada to a Chinese mother and Hungarian father. Love it.

Noggin's op is clearly intended as anti-racist. Some posters are criticising him for it.

Footballers 'taking the knee' is clearly intended as anti-racist. Some in the crowd (and up and down the country) booed and otherwise criticised them for it.

Are the two so very different?

btw, I don't for a moment believe Glassers and Bloots and others are racist but in this case they are on the wrong side of the argument.

Edit... forgot to say... it is for others to say whether my posts are 'dumb'.

....my comment regarding Noggin's post was simply that it was designed to start an argument and as such was a strange post.

Nobody on here had made any comment about Raducanu's heritage, so why start a thread about people doing so?

It's not complicated!

You're a good guy TIB, but I think you're seriously misreading the objections to the OP, which as far as I can see are aimed at a) ignoring Raducanu's amazing sporting achievement(s) and b) causing division on the board where in recent weeks there hadn't been any re racism. The OP does read somewhat like a clickbait tabloid headline.

You're either thick or argumentative - the "problem" many have - is purely that the original post failed to actually acknowledge or celebrate the sporting achievement - instead just went for digging out people who weren't vocal, evident or even don't exist on this forum.

It's really not hard to comprehend

Lots of those (like me) who have expressed frustration are also very much against racism, discrimination and prejudice but it doesn't mean they can't call out what they perceive as inappropriateness of those who may share similar views on that.

Actually, my last 2 words were celebrating her success. I "love it" that an immigrant is having success while representing Britain. Hopefully you're happy now.

Just to clear things up, I wasn't having a dig at anyone on here so no need for anyone to get their panties in a twist. Having said that, if anyone on here does have a problem with the fact she's an immigrant, then yes, it's a little dig at them.

So bloots and Glassers are not so far removed from the people who boo taking the knee? Just so we’re clear? That’s what you think?

Perhaps. There’s a very similar argument being made by the booers.

That's some backtracking. Your love it comment was clearly because you thought people would get annoyed by her birthplace and parents nationalities. Stop digging.

Well the original of gammon has passed me by. I assume there must be some sort of reason why that word was chosen.

I joked previously that Phil Ham may be upset by the association but I want the story behind it !!!!!

What’s the actual difference?

We’re on a thread where people are agitated that a political statement is getting in the way of sport/doesn’t have a place here.

I think, in both cases, the bigger picture is bigger than sport.

....as a way of describing the change of skin colour when someone gets particularly excited or opinionated.

It then became used to describe middle aged white brexiteers and more recently (by some) as just an alternative way to call someone racist.

Which is ironic as the phrase itself revolves around the colour of someone's skin.

Where did I suggest that you boo the knee? I’m sure you don’t as those people seem to mostly object to having racism called out.

I think your bugbear is having the right called out.

It is a good time to mention that the term 'Gammon' is a slur, but not a racist one.

Where the non-racist slur qualifies in your book of social acceptance is up to you, as is how acceptable it is.

Not so much a defense of the OP as much as it is important not to cheapen the plight of the people who are persecuted and victimized based on their ethnicity.
