It was always the players, always, couldn’t you see that??

Worst Town performance since Micks last season.

One of the key runs of fixtures and we sack the manager.

NO WAY WE WOULD HAVE BEEN THAT BAD WITH COOK IN CHARGE!!!

The season isn’t over. We were two wins and a draw off the play offs. Now we are three wins off the play offs.

With the right management and the right motivator, that’s doable.

I didn't say it was over. But Herbs and others were saying we need 2 points per game to make the play offs and Cook wasn't going to get them... we remove him and the players, many of whom came here because of Cook, put in their worst, or close to worst, performance of the season.

I said a couple of days ago the upheaval could be shooting ourselves in the foot, that we might have been better off sticking with Cook, giving him Jan to fix a few issues that didn't work from his first window, and here we are. I'm not expecting any better away at Wigan either. Unstable may be more at the Unstable end, but he has a point.

Some people were telling me we aren't a basket case of a club. I'm not so sure.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Yeah, if you ignore all the games under Cook where we collapsed under any kind of pressure, we never performed like that.

Last night was worse than any Cook performance to me, even Bolton at home. Walton was unbelievable - without him it would've been 6-0.

Was it the worst performance? Maybe, it certainly was dreadful.

But it definitely wasn't the outlier that some are making out. We have wilted under any kind of pressure consistently since Cook joined us, both last season and this one. I don't know if it is lack of fight in the team, or poor tactics, but it has been a defining feature of the last 9 months.

Second half at Cheltenham and Accrington spring to mind off the top of my head. Really poor. The difference last night was we didn't score first but the collapse after conceding was classic Town under Cook.

We couldn't have scored first because we didn't have a shot

Indeed. It's not over, but it will require the new manager to turn things around very quickly. Whether that is possible or not we will soon find out but even if we don't make the top 6 it's about a new manager making us work as a team and improving us significantly. I wouldn't put too much stock in what Dollers is saying though, he's looking for a row as usual, think he's pretty butt hurt that he backed the wrong horse again.

For once I agree with you but Rotherham are a lot better side than Charlton

We were at home against Rotherham with a manager who had been in charge for much longer than one day. I'm also not sure Rotherham were THAT much better, Charlton are on a good run at home (4 wins out of 5) and their front 2 looked very handy.

Both games were similar, 20 minutes of looking average with little in the game, concede a sloppy goal and then never look remotely like getting back into it. Last night was a continuation of what Cook has built here, which shouldn't be a surprise given that McGreal has only had one day with the squad.

i do think that the one person in all this i wouldn't attach any blame to is mcgreal.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Who bought these players?

There is an obvious answer to this question. He even did an interview to camera after the window congratulating himself.

Again I agree with some of that although in my opinion there is a big difference in that Rotherham will stroll to promotion where as Charlton will be nowhere near

"To suggest that losing this one game means our season is over is bed wetting of the highest order."

That's exactly what you'd have said if Cook had been in charge.

Well duh, because Cook has proven he can't get close to the 2 PPG average required. So if Cook was still in charge and we lost, it would just further prove that.

As it is, there's a chance a new manager could produce much better results on average than Cook, so there is a faint hope. Like I said elsewhere and at the time, the owners have likely left it too late which is a shame.

Charlotn's xG was 2.27 - of course they could have scored 6 but you expect your keeper to save some shots as he did last night.

Chances are, like Rotherham, had they got their 2nd goal earlier they'd have just toyed with us to save energy

Ah yes, claiming the season is over after one game but wetting yourself over the fact we sacked the guy who was responsible for the previous 20 that put us here in the first place. You got something stuck underneath your caps lock button?

I couldn't care less about the expected goals nonsense as I've said several times. Lots of people have said it could've been a cricket score if not for Walton and I agree with them. Nobody else has looked likely to score so many whilst we have nothing on target.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

the bolton game xG was 1.0-2.3, so even by that metric last night was worse!
