It was always the players, always, couldn’t you see that??

Worst Town performance since Micks last season.

One of the key runs of fixtures and we sack the manager.

NO WAY WE WOULD HAVE BEEN THAT BAD WITH COOK IN CHARGE!!!

We’ve gone backwards for the last 4-5 games, Cook had lost the plot - what other than hope makes you think we’d have done anything bar lose tonight under Cook?

Do you think we would have had a better result and performance if Cook had been in charge tonight?

I think without doubt we could have gotten a result tonight against what I thought was a weak Charlton team.

Whether he was the long term solution given he'd 'lost the plot' is without question a valid point... BUT we've just written off the season in one of the worst displays in living memory, a team of players weaker because their manager was removed

I can't believe we are even debating this

We sacked Jewell, albeit in a worse position, then were absolutely humilated under Hutchings against Sheffield Wednesday. At that point I thought all was over and nothing was dragging us out of this mess but McCarthy came in, stabilised us and took us up to 14th.

Just because tonight was one of the worst displays in living memory (and that performance against Wednesday was surely up there) it doesn't mean it's all over.

I mean, we're probably not going up this season admittedly, but we weren't going to be under Cook anyway. But, just because we played awfully tonight doesn't mean it will necessarily become the long term norm.

If you think Charlton were weak you've got issues.

Charlton were vey good and have generally had good form recently. It doesn't detract from how awful we were but i saw nothing to suggest had Cook been in the dugout that we would have got anything from tonight at all.

The line up probably wouldn't have been vastly different from what it was and well the players let everyone down, as they have most of the season.

Evans and Fraser played like they have all season under Cook, they look a waste of time and money currently

If you agree he’s lost the plot then surely expediting removal is best thing possible?

“Drama Queen”

Did you travel to London today and Charlton? Did you spend the time and money involved?!

Did you?!

Because if not you can f@ck off

Did you just witness probably one of the worst town performances I can remember?

And are you so stupid to not realise that if we’d kept Cook in post we had a far better chance of winning!? How stupid must you be?!

The season is now OVER, OVER… and we are going to get spanked

‘And are you so stupid to not realise that if we’d kept Cook in post we had a far better chance of winning!? How stupid must you be?!’

To call J2 stupid for not realising something that you’ve literally just made up and is nothing more than guesswork is an interesting take.

Let's not talk silly. Cook hadn't lost the plot. We'd had a few poor performances but nothing close to last night.

What a mess we're in. Totally unnecessary if we'd have just shown some patience through to tweak things in Jan.

I think we'd have lost that game under Cook given out recent performances under him. To suggest that losing this one game means our season is over is bed wetting of the highest order. Arguably Cook's underperformance here meant it was as good as over before last night, that's still the case this morning. It's one game under a caretaker manager who has had one or two hours with the squad. Get a grip.

We certainly wouldn't have performed that poorly last night with him in charge. The players / his players clearly took the sacking badly and should have been more professional.

Doesn't alter my view though that the board were crazy to pull the trigger. What a mess

That performance was largely fitting with our recent trajectory under Cook so the notion we'd definitely have played way better with him in charge is somewhat fanciful. There's a reason he's been sacked.

It's interesting that the "we need patience" crew are now losing their heads completely after one game of football.

Wow! I can see why you call yourself unstable.

What a reaction to a temporary manager who has been in position for a couple of days. As others have said they are Cook’s players. John McGreal didn’t chose them.

Just remember you are not the only one hurting. To come on here and be abusive to others is not the way to carry on.

I hope for your sake you have calmed down. It is not life or death. It was a football game. Emotions run high but we can’t change a thing. We can only hope things get better.

Second half at Cheltenham and Accrington spring to mind off the top of my head. Really poor. The difference last night was we didn't score first but the collapse after conceding was classic Town under Cook.

Yeah, if you ignore all the games under Cook where we collapsed under any kind of pressure, we never performed like that.

The season isn’t over. We were two wins and a draw off the play offs. Now we are three wins off the play offs.

With the right management and the right motivator, that’s doable.
