Aren't they just the worst bunch of people ever?

Time for change, Clown Boris and his troop of buffoons are just cutting a ridiculous figure now. When is the next election. Hell, I will even vote for Starmer over that lot.

I really can't stand them. It's crazy the stuff that they're seemingly allowed to get away with. People will still vote for them too.

The issue is, there's no real alternative.

They were the better prospect than a Corbyn govt, that's the truly sad thing.

The strange willingness of English people to vote for toffs and social climbers who despise them has always been fascinating.

Shame there's no viable alternative isn't it?

Other lot would be just as morally corrupt.

I guess it's all part of the makeup of a politician.

Of course there is. It's hard to understate what a danger this lot are to the country. They atack all our democratic institutions, are demonstrably corrupt, willfully break the law, and are launching attacks on our human rights. And their leader and senior ministers are largely incompetent.

In short, they are not a 'proper', serious government. No other government in my lifetime has behaved this way. Even May (who was uselessly weak) was serious and I'd challenge anyone to find a more feckless bunch in any other party.

That is the current excuse isn't it?

The idea that Starmer is as big a liar, cynic, and clown as Johnson is an easy get out.

I don't particularly agree with them on many of their policies,, but Starmer, Nandy, Rayner, Debonnaire, Doods etc are simply not morally corrupt in the way that, for instance, Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Patel, Raab and Gove are.

Absolute joke of a party. As well as being utterly inept, they're also as bent as a £9 note and frankly, offensive to the people they purport to serve. To think people missed funerals of loved ones or missed seeing them for one last time, the Queen sat on her own at the service of her husband of 73 years, while c***s like Jacob Rees-Mogg were partying away and laughing behind our backs.

I'm not left wing by any stretch, I have voted for Tony Blair in the past, I also voted for David Cameron, I voted for Milliband later. I don't buy into having a side, I think we should vote on what's best for the country, it's not football. I couldn't bring myself to vote for either Johnson or Corbyn at the last election, and given climate change is the single biggest issue we face I opted to vote Green. But one thing I'm sure of is this government is an utter disgrace.

Get them out and get them locked up I say.

Awesome, what are their policies then .... oh

Like I said, no viable alternative. I'm not a Tory lover, certainly didn't vote for them, but Corbyn at the time was poison and Starmer is like a faceless figurehead of a rudderless opposition.

That's absolute rubbish and what they want you to think — they want you to completely lose faith and trust in all institutions so that they can do whatever they like to them. Labour are far from perfect but if you think they are in the same league as this dangerous, evil mob then you simply aren't willing to look at what's staring you in the face.

Like I said, not a Tory backer at all - but neither am I enamoured with the alternatives. Labour still live under the Corbyn cloud and need to generate some kind of cohesive plan as to how to change their fortunes or we'll be stuck with the clown for the forseeable.

Starmer has literally removed Corbyn from the PLP and brought in competent shadow ministers like Yvette Cooper, Rachael Reeves and the like.

A complete contrast to the former shadow cabinet which gave seats at the table to people like Richard Burgon and Diane Abbott.

Labour look far more like a government in waiting than they did under Corbyn.

I had this conversation with my mother just this week. She trotted out the “Boris is trying his best” line before saying Labour couldn’t do any better. I don’t get it. Really don’t get it. And there’s a huge number of her generation who think the same. Utterly baffling.

Many of the ‘blue rinse’ generation voted Tory because their husbands told them to. It makes one shudder, but it is astoundingly true

The problem Labour have is they're trying to fight populism with sober rationality. They are unable to effectively match the simplistic soundbites of the other side. Thus an impression is given at a certain level of media consumption that Labour are not providing any real opposition.

Why the need to restrict yourself to a "viable" alternative? What do you mean by "viable" in this context? How "viable" over the next 3 years do you think this current government will be?

Almost any alternative will do for me right now.

Ideal time for smaller parties to gain more traction or new parties to form. Heck, even some locally based independents with some passion.

Do we need a viable alternative in order to not vote for a bunch of corrupt, racist, homophobic, dog-whistling right wingers?

Even if none of the opposition parties present a 'viable alternative' they're all a better shout than the current bunch?

I share your views. I didn’t vote Green. I bunged my x in the liberal box. Total waste, but I kinda feel duty bound to vote despite the lack of options.

Round where I am, stick a blue rosette on the contents of the dog mess bin and it’d get in by a mile, so I don’t have a meaningful vote. I suppose that’s one of the reasons why I’m in favour of proportional representation

Greens?

Lib Dems?

Starmer has been uninspiring, and isn't being helped at all by continuing Labour in-fighting which dates back to Kinnock's time, but in his years as both a lawyer and as a politician he has shown himself to be at least a decent person. He could have made a LOT more money for himself had he chosen a different path within Law.

I am utterly convinced that we need a Coalition approach now. The contempt that Johnson has shown for the Electorate, to Parliament (refusal to publish Parliamentary Committee reports), to the Parliamentary Standards office and to the Ministerial Code, and even to the Queen (forcing her to prorogue Parliament illegally) is so stark that both the leader, Ross, and former leader, Davidson, of the Scottish Conservatives came out condemning him yesterday. Ruth Davidson went so far as to say that proper Conservatives have a respect for truth and honesty, "playing with a straight bat", and that Johnson simply doesn't.

So form a Coalition agreement now, and divide up the Constituencies between Labour, Lib Dems and Greens in England, with SNP and PC in Scotland and Wales, and ask Rory Stewart and similar to stand for the Coalition as well, and make it a pure gunfight at the OK Corral between Corrupt Johnson Tories and "The fight to save Democracy Coalition".

Then bring in proper Proportional Representation (the Scottish Parliament has a perfectly workable scheme) and ensure that no personality cult can ever dominate UK politics again, that every vote counts and that parties like the Greens and Lib Dems who represent a substantial chunk of the British public are represented properly.
