Could Derby actually stay up? 20:42 - Dec 30 with 2632 viewshype313

Win tonight and they will be 11 points from safety, not insurmountable given the amount of games left.

1-0 up away at Stoke. It would be the greatest escape surely in English history. Rooney is doing a phenomenal job given the circumstance.

It’s certainly a possibility.

The only issue they might have is if they don't secure new ownership, next week could be tricky keeping hold of key players.

And it’s easier to catch up points at the bottom than at the top, as those at the bottom pick up less points.

They should have been in admin for having a Starbucks in the ground in my opinion. I genuinely hope they crash through the leagues and end up getting slapped by Burton. They deserve it.

Stoke equalise with their first shot on target in the 78th minute.

Yep this.

Only realistic bidder pulled out last week apparently

I thought they were going to announce their preferred bidder once the front runner dropped out ?

Considering the situation they are in if Rooney keeps them up he should be announced manager of the season IMO.

I don’t understand the anti-Derby sentiment from some posters. Ok, they overspent and gambled but they aren’t the only club to do this.

i think in some warped world they still feel as if derby are our rivals going for championship playoff places, and because they spent a shedload of money many of our got jealous.

Their form thus far this season is just slightly worse than Luton's. If they continue on the same trajectory, they'll fail to stay up. I would think they'd need at least 44 points to stay up. They'd need to pretty much match QPR's form to date to stay up I would think. If I'm right on the 44 point mark, that would mean clocking up 65 points, minus their 21 point penalty. 65 points is about a 10th placed finish normally. A very decent achievement. Not certain that it's manager of the season territory, but I do appreciate that he's operating under very difficult circumstances.

My bet would be against them staying up, and I would not be sorry to see them come down, although I'm sorry for the fans.

Whereas the Derby approach was irresponsible as they failed to go up the ME approach was equally as rotten.

Would need 34 points ish from 22 games. Not impossible by any means, but better than the 31 they've got from 24 so far.

They’ll likely have to sell in January too, so squad will be further weakened

But do we really want them down here next season?
They'll be another big team in this godforsaken league!

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

It is and they have been docked 21 points so an 11 point gap after just over halfway through the season suggests they only need slightly better form than they are on in order to manage it. Thanks to the points deduction, their goal difference is always going to be better than the teams on similar points too.

I don't think they will, but it is far from impossible and certainly far more likely than us reaching the play-offs.

Though could be in a similar state to Bolton at the start of 19/20, depending on what happens with the takeover.
