Nah, his real true love was Lambo.

It must have been love, given that he gave him a five year deal for relegating us and then came out swinging for him when he was busy marooning us in the third division with his Lambert Walk football.

Oooof. That 'message from the owner' taking a pop at fans went down well, didn't it? Blimey.

BCWYWF indeed.

All you lot that spent years saying you felt sorry for him and that ‘the game got too rich for him and he’d sell up if he could’ surely now see that this wasn’t the case at all.

He can’t help himself. Had a good crack at running us into the ground and now is going to give Huddersfield fans the full experience.

That the game is too rich for him?

He won't be throwing £20m a season about in the Championship. But he will commit stable funds that will keep Huddersfield afloat, supported by Hoyle who will probably run a big part of the club for him and likely co-invest.

I still look on him as just being a bit naieve, tbh. No idea why he wants to get involved in football again, but surely you're not saying he purposely mismanaged the club he owned, Rommy?

Of course he didn't purposely mismanage it, he just did a lot of it badly.

He's getting back in because he likes football and wants to be an owner. He'll also see this as a decent price to invest at.

I'll be interested to see what happens.

Think he'll appoint Paul Cook?

Imagine if he makes a success of it!!

...unlikely.... I hope.

My first thought too, appoints Cook as an old school style appointment who then proceeds to tear up the league playing, erm, what formation?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

...by doing literally everything on the cheap and half-arsed.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

A truly baffling decision. No idea why he'd even consider football after the Town debacle.

No good with people, not good with fans, doesn't spend money wisely, not good at managerial appointments, not good at delegating, not good at hiring back room.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

The irony would be fun if he took over Bristol City, would end the bizarre ramblings of many City fans after finding out that the person signing off anything only works 3 days a month!

He didn’t do it purposely. But once it became apparent that he really had little care for the club and allowed it to get into such a state on and off the pitch, he should’ve sold. Whereas he openly admitted turning down multiple offers.

For me, that isn’t forgiveable - deliberate or not.

His personality isn't one who accepts (or recongises) shortcomings in his own decisions - he'll be keen to prove people wrong.

Dunno about that. Even with the yanks coming in it was clear ME wouldn't sell to anyone that wouldn't have the club's best interests at heart.

Completely agree that his ownership was woeful but it was still good he'd take a financial hit over selling to some dodgy feckers who'd do untold damage to the club.

I really can't think of him too badly beyond being massively naieve and inexperienced in football. He should save whatever hair he has left and give this ownership lark a miss though...

Precisely this.

I don't think anyone (either inside or outside of the club) disputes that ME did incredible due diligence on any prospective purchaser, and turned down multiple bidders because they weren't the right fit for the club.

I'm glad that he took his time and secured a buyer with the right intentions, rather than selling us to the first person to meet his valuation, and us having ended up with someone like Bassini/Dale/Oyston as a result.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

That could be the case, but the only way he'll get any return from football is by getting a club into the Premier League, and even then it's debatable if you want to stay there. 7 years ago today we were 2nd in the Championship, a point off top with a good manager and a good squad. Had he have got his cheque book out and backed MM in that January then who knows what might've happened. If he was seemingly so unwilling to appropriately fund a club then, and spectacularly since, then I would fear for Huddersfield.

Yes, I do agree with this. There are only so many golden tickets to the promised land, and there are plenty of others (with bigger fanbases and more years of parachute payments in the bank) who will be spending. If you don't spend, you have very little chance. If you do spend, you have slightly more chance but it's still a casino rather than a business plan in my view. Given how joyless he always seemed, I doubt he's in it just for the fun. Although I guess he has a lot of money to spend on whatever toy he fancies.

If he means he has to sell his 5% in Gamechanger then good.

I think having somebody like Hoyle alongside him will be valuable to Evans. He had literally nobody here (outside of the first team manager) from about 2012 onwards with any footballing nous whatsoever. That was obviously by his own design and I actually think he'll acknowledge that.

If Hoyle retains his 25% then it's probably not a bad thing for Huddersfield overall.

I looked at this when the issue came up initially and I don't think he would necssarily be obliged to. There may be some hoops to jump through but it isn't against the rules to have stakes in two clubs.

I still think the game got too rich for him. If he thinks it will be very different at Huddersfield, unless he changes his approach (or is very fortunate with a managerial appointment), then the outcome may be similar.

Perhaps the temptation got too strong, or he's like a bad gambler trying to offset previous losses with a fresh punt.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
