Has the vaccination jabs effected anyones jobs? 09:05 - Jan 8 with 2115 viewsPippin1970

Two good friends have to leave end of March because don't want the jabs. One under medical exception trying to fight it. A lot of people will be leaving certain industries end of March.

If they have a genuine medical exemption then they won't be sacked for not being vaccinated. The vaccination hasn't affected my job as I've had it. Anyone who works in an industry where the vaccine is mandatory who has chosen not to be vaccinated has made their choice and I have limited sympathy for them.

Indeed. Sacking them if they have a genuine exemption would be unfair dismissal and leave the employer in a very difficult position.

However, I am guessing that the vast majority of people who claim a medical exemption have not been to their Dr let alone got anything formal confirming it. They just decide that they are special. Just like with masks. There are relatively few conditions that genuinely warrant it.

Yes the vaccination (or lack of) has affected my job. Im in charge of a small team, 5 of us. 4 including myself have had the jabs and booster and not been affected. One young girl (25) who works for us and is very very good and we normally rely on decided not to take the vaccinations. Fair enough I thought, her decision, though I'd rather she did obviously. She caught Covid towards the end of last year and ended up spending a couple of days in hospital... Since then she has not been the same person she was before at all, she is really struggling with ongoing illness.
It is very sad to see and yes, it has affected my job, making things much tougher for our small team.

Maybe these people you talk about who are leaving their jobs in March can head off to a brave utopian land and start a new business selling homeopathy products or something. Then the rest of us can get on with living again.

They have not HAD to leave their jobs. Its a bit like saying that a person HAD to leave his job on the building site, because he didn't want to wear safety boots.

Sorry to hear it's affected you. What are your feelings about your colleague ? What was the basis of her decision not to get vaccinated ? Is she regretting that decision now ?

Although no-one wants to see anyone suffer, it's very hard to have sympathy with anyone who's made a decision based on ignorance. Not only have her actions adversely affected you and your colleagues (and presumably she's been on sick pay as well, so a financial hit) but also she's been one of the people contributing towards the current NHS crisis.

I would hope at the least that she's now encouraging other people her age to get jabbed. If not, she's frankly an idiot and I have little sympathy for her.

A chap who works in my local pub and is early 30s caught it last summer and had a similar experience as your staff member in being very unwell. He was not the same for some months, but is gradually getting back to his normal self now. Hopefully the same will happen with her.

It does seem to affect people differently from extreme to nothing and vaccine does seem to mitigate the worst effects of it for many people.

Had I been twenty something now, would I have bothered with vaccination? Being immortal, probably not initially, if I’m honest. But then if the job and holiday travel had required it, I’d have gone for it.

Good questions. I would say we were outwardly sympathetic although exasperated when she got Covid. Her experience in hospital sounded pretty horrible, even though she was never seriously at risk. It sounds like the staff who dealt with her were very unsympathetic and quite rude towards her, which frankly I can understand. They are fed up of having to waste time on people like her.

I think her reluctance to have the jab initially came from semi-understandable concerns about what the jab might do to her hormones and whether it might have an effect her fertility at later date, which to be honest I couldnt really argue with too much. But her boyfriend remained unvacced too and I think she might have gone further down the anti-vacc wormhole. We used to discuss things like this quite openly, but its become a bit of an elephant in the room. I think despite her experience, she's still vaccine-hesitant and is hoping that she'll have natural immunity and not have a decision to make...

Now I would say most of our sympathy has waned and we're getting pretty resentful that we're getting left to pick up the slack because of her poor decision.
I think this is also symptomatic of the fact patience seems to be running out for the unvacced everywhere.

I dont think that initial reluctance was reasonable. There was no basis for concern about fertility other than conspiracy theories.

Probably nowhere near the number of people who have had to give up their jobs through being deceased via Covid, or having to care for someone with 'long Covid'

Tell them not to panic - if they are truly dedicated to spreading a potentially lethal mutating disease around their community (and to their friends) the end might be nigh - with a 4th vaciination now being mooted even the most dedicated of vaccine entusiasts are getting a little fed up

Besides, such is the UK's enthusiasm for letting Covid rip through their population that it may well die down quite early this spring..... until of course another possibly more serious variant rears its head in the largely unvaccinated outside world.

And Lordy - imagine if we have a flu epidemic next year.... is flu vaccine going to be manadatory?

No I get that, but as a (slightly) older man I felt reluctant to wade in too heavily with the concerns of a young woman regarding her body!

It's a difficult one I've had all 3 jabs like a lot of us on here. End of day it's protecting people around us.

Worth noting that no flu has ever had the R0 rate of covid so comparisons in mitigating measures are pretty pointless.

The Spanish flu, had an R0 of about 1.8 whereas Delta has ~6.8. and Omicron could be as high as 10 but it's transmission is aided by immune evasion. It's also different in that flu vaccines usually stop a lot of transmission whilst covid vaccines aren't as good at doing this because it's simply much more contagious and the immunity wanes.

Well yes - but flu vaccines are a 'best guess' at the most likely variant to pop up in a given year, so the vaccine is usually pretty useless..... whereas Covid vaccines to date have effectively been panic responses to existing infections to what was a completely unknown virus..... those evil medics bent on world domination already have their fingers in several pies to broaden the effectiveness of future vaccines to as yet unknown covid variants...wheras flu vaccines remain largely guess work..

And that's not considering the theory/belief that Covid is en route to being something akin to a common cold - whereas flu will forever remain a sllent killer, effectively igonored by the media.

I've just found out more than one colleague hasn't been jabbed because "don't want to" and they had a really bad bout of covid so feel there's no point now.

A few of the lads down the gym are like this, and have had a bit too much Joe Rogan piped into them etc. but I've struggled not to lose my temper with them at work especially.

It baffles me we have people who are antivax this day and age but I get the mechanism of media and a generation of vaccines being so good that cause this perfect storm. Frankly, if it costs you your job it's hard to have little sympathy.

Denying the death toll of COVID etc. is a dangerous rabbit hole a lot of these people fall in.
